is the midwest cap 80 and the hanger 9 cap 80 the same plane?
 

I ask because I need to figure out a balance point for the first flight.

Midwest recommends a cg at 5 1/4 to 6 1/4, with optimal being listed at 5 7/8.

H9 recommends 6-7 inches, most seem to fly at 6 1/2.

To me, the planes look identical (same designer, and so on). So why the different cg recommendations?????

What cg do you all use in the miwest cap/extra????

I think its the same plane. The dimensions are the same, both with a one piece wing and both were designed by Mike McConville. I think its a safe bet.

I don't know if they are the same, but be aware that the C.G. location is related to the airfoils center of lift, not the size of the plane. They may be identical in size but if they use a different airfoil shape there could easily be 3/4 inch difference on this size plane.

The Midwest recommened CG is very conservatve Mine is at about 6.5" and the previous owner had it at 7". Mine is still very stable with the elevator throws at about 3/4" on low rate for general flying. So...Yes I think they are virtually the same plane.

I was reading a description of the Hangar nine cap by Hangar nine. It claimed Mike reengineered this cap with more wing area.
With the same span he may have increased the cord, so I would go with their data over Midwests'.
