Kyoshso PT17, or any bipe for that question....Flaps?
My first question is this, I have dual aileron servos on this plane, Kyosho pt17, and would it help for me to use them as flaperons? The way I do on my GP Big stick .40?
I know of what I have read on here about the super stearman, but is this plane the same? Has anyone flew it? I read that feller's really long discription on the other threads about the super stearman but, from what I can tell this one has more wing loading. I have one of these with a Magnum 52 4stroker with a m.a. 12x6 k prop. I have never flown a bipe. But i have successfully flown the ultra stick 60 and 120. I also have flown the Corsair, but not successfully landed quite yet. How do I set up the upper wing? Thanks for any help. One Nation Under God |

Flaperons are not really needed on a bipe. Most bipes have a low wing loading and flaperons don't provide any benefit. I've built and flown the Kyosho PT-17 and it's a great flying plane. You need not worry about landing it. If ou can fly the Ultra Stik 60 & 120 then you won't have any trouble with the PT-17. You'll have to watch the take off and be gentle on the rudder. The PT-17 has a narrow track landing gear so it is sensitive to ground looping. Once you have built up speed it smooths out though and you take off like any other plane.
You can read my build and flight report of the Kyosho PT-17 on my web site at http://www.geocities.com/jbrundt2/N2S-1.html hth Jeff |

Hey cool!
I saw that sight before, a few days back, I saved it to my favorites. That is a nice looking plane. I liked the video too. That is good to hear about it landing ok. So in your own words does it land like a trainer? I have been told that. What do I need to look out for?J Thanks! |

I would say the PT-17 lands like any other low wing sport plane. It won't slow like a trainer will but then again it's not designed as one. I'd say it lands comparable to my SIG SE and similar to your big stick. It won't be as smooth through the aerobatics like your big stick but it does respectable loops and rolls. Stall turns are not bad either. It looks really good on those low, slow passes and just doing horizontal figure 8's over the field. Nothing prettier in the blue sky than a yellow bipe. :)
Glad you liked my web page on the PT-17 and the videos there. The OS52 is a great engine for that plane. If you have any other questions please feel free to email me. Jeff |
