Right On, my brother--unfortunately what you say is only too true and even more unfortunately--always will be! You and I both know from personal experience that Murphy was a very wise individual. Fortunately we are alive to tell about it.

the easiest alternate gear for this plane (the gs mustang) that i found is the spring air 404 gear. they are 1/5 to 1/4 scale and fit in the wing with limited wing changes.

they are much stronger than the original gear, and because they are air operated they don't need the retracts servos.

the site is www.retracts.com

by the way has anyone checked with robart lately about the gear they are supposed to be designing for this plane? seems like i heard ayear ago that they were supposed to be doing this. i just wondered if it is still on their list of things to actually do.

Is this thread about the .40 size WM P-51 or the Giant Scale WM P-51?????

Carlos Murphy 04-08-2002 04:54 PM

Jazzy, It's about both... specify

I called Robart last week and was told the new gear SHOULD be ready at the end of April but he didn't sound too positive about it.

The stock gear is much better than the gear that was in the original GS Miss America. I've got the gear in my Ridge Runner working well with not much effort but high torque servos are a must. Had to mount my servos UNDER the servo tray in order to get the push rod connector low enough.

I hope to put the first flights on it before April 27th, my clubs big fun-fly.

I WAS going to remove the factory servo tray's for the pull-pull rudder and elevator since I installed those servos in the tail and install a full cockpit from the Top Flite GS Mustang and install the "Doc Miller" pilot from Blue Box Toys but I used those tray's for the retractable tail wheel operating servo's and besides, the tray's are "over built" because their a major part of the structure and give the fuse much strength in this area. I'll have to settle for a good pilot bust instead.

World Models GS P-51 Miss America

I just got an email from Airborne Models saying that if I return the original GS Mustang gears that came with the world models plane and $5, they will send me the upgraded, stronger version of retract.
Is it worth it? Somebody let me know.
Thanks
Jerry
