Need some advice

About 3 weeks ago, I lost my beautiful H9 corsair to battery falure. I never found the wreckage, and I probably never will. Anyway, Christmas is comming soon, so I am looking for my next plane. I can't decide though between another scale warbird and a 3D plane. I love the warbirds, constantly working to make them look as scale as possible. Yet, I have never gotten in to 3D flying, and it looks cool. The 3 planes I'm looking at are the H9 Hellcat, the H9 spitfire, and a H9 Showtime 50.

Warbirds and 3D planes are like apples and oranges. :)

I prefer to fly scale. I have not seen a full scale edge 540 hover. Go for the warbird. I just bought the H9 P47. Just starting the build now. Good luck!

Maybe not a full scale Edge in a hover as I've not seen one of those do it, but Sean Tucker does it with this....:D

One of each!

Decide this way.

Do you like to fly fast? Warbird.

Do you like scale flight? Warbird.

Do you like to fly up close? 3-D.

Do you like big, expansive maneuvers? Warbird.

Do you want to learn complicated aerobatics? 3-D.

And, just because a plane can fly 3-D doesn't mean it must fly high-alpha maneuvers. Just watch out as most are overpowered and with large control surfaces and high speed flight you can tear the model apart. You have to manage the throttle, not just "on and off".

One aspect of the 3-D capable models not often exploited is the wonderful fun you can have playing with the STOL capabilities. I'm more of an IMAC style of flyer than the nose-up hovering type, but a model that can be set for huge flaps, split ailerons, CROW/Butterfly and has control surfaces out the giggie can make for some fun short-field amusement.

But a low pass and snarling pull-out of a Spitfire is unequalled. That and the Mosquito are the only two good looking things the British ever designed; plane, train or automobile. :D

Maybe try something new. You never know. If you dont like it, sell it off and go back. Im looking to maiden my Showtime 50 on Sunday. Im excited. I love aerobatics. I really like the look of scale planes & flying...but I personally need something more.

There are points of intersection on the Scale vs. 3-D curves - take the Ultimate Biplane for instance.

The only instance of a "real" plane that was based on a R/C model.

Thanks for all the replys! It's just such a hard decision. This will probably be my last plane before I go to college, so I want to be happy with it. I guess I'm making a big deal out of nothing[sm=75_75.gif]. I have a Pulse XT right now which has served as my acrobatic plane, but I can't really hover. Like charlie p. said, I really feel the thrill as I make a high speed pass in a warbird. I was always unsure of a 3D plane because I am hesatant about taking risks. But it looks so cool hovering just above the ground!

Get the warbird. Hover on a sim, it's cheaper.:D

If you want to hover get a helicopter.

Looks like you have not seen the video on YouTube by Kirby Chamblis ... he is hovering the Edge 540 and you have to see the new maneuvers, its very much like our 3D planes now. :)
