Just ordered the Dago Red built by World Models. Now the fun part, which engine to put in it? Stick with a 4 cycle 70, or go up to a YS 91 or Saito 100?

I have a Futaba 9C, should I purchase the Futaba S136 retract servo, or go with another manufacturer?

What advice do the seasoned fliers have to say?

In my opinion have had 2 of these -one had over 100 flights on it intially with a os91 4stroke then a saito 100.Then on like the 101st flight I put it into a flatspin & it wouldnt recover that day..I then bought another 1 & put a irvine 61 on it and ohhh man this baby was ballistic..I sold that 1 and now got a WM 80inch Miss America to replace it.In my opinion if you want all out speed go with the 61 size 2stroke-namely a irvine-they are powerhouses

If you want a more scale sound and a plane thats almost as fast go with the Saito100..Either way I think you'll be happy.I fly mostly jets so anything under 130 now is basically boring to me - LOL

Also dont get that bumping around in flight as you do with proplanes..cuts thru 20 mph winds like butter-unaffected.Anyways I steered off topics course so good luck with your choice

Ohh about your retract servo question -you can use a standard without any problems-I used hitec 425 on mine -never a prob at all.If you wanna use a retract servo go with either the futaba or the expert brand-stay away from the hitec retract servo ,its not atv compatible(cant be adjusted with computer radio via travel adjustment if you need too ) good luck!

All the warbird fanatics at our flying field use the YS 91. It's about the fastest and most realistic sounding. They also fit 20 ounce tanks, but that's because they chase each other about the skies!

Retracts
 

My understanding is retract servos were specifically designed to operate a full 180 degrees and built to withstand the constant full torque force at the end of the throws. The retract servo does not allow end point adjustment?

Out here, I've read that some set ups may only require 160 degrees for operation, and if so, it sounds like a standard servo would be required allowing end point adjustment.

Want to make sure the retracts are set up correctly. Any info on how the retracts are in the Dago Red? Other models (H9, and other World Models) have alot of postings that show weak points, or having to tilt the gear forward to prevent nose overs.

You should find that the last few millimeters at the ends of the throws lock the retract mechanisms, so the servo shouldn't be taking any load, either up or down.

If this isn't the case, then I wouldn't rely on the load 'fighting' the servo, as that'll very quickly deplete the battery, like a binding servo does.

I would use a retract servo. The standard servos pull the gear up and down much too fast and does not look right. Retract servos are not that expensive.
