Hobbistar 60 MkIII
 

Hello,

I am getting back into the Hobby after a 12 year absence. I just got this plane in this week. Hobbistar 60 MkIII ARF. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXCSY9 I also got a Magnum .91 4 Cycle to pull it along. This is my first ARF, I used to actually have time to build, so any tips would be appreciated. :)

Assemble it per instructions and you'll have a fine plane. I'd use a 14x6 Master Airscrew K Series prop on the Mag 91. Once you get the 'feel' back you may or may not want to experiment with different props. The MA K Series will often flex rather than break on those initial rough landings.

Thanks for the reply. That MA 14x6 will work out good since its the recommended break in prop for this engine.

You will love this plane! It is built like a tank. Easy to put together. It flyies very fast if you want it to. It lands gracefully. I had the .65LA and it would scream! This plane is prone to prop strikes if you have a moderate hard landing. I had to settle for using a 12x6. I tried 13x6 to get a little more vertical but was constantly knocking the tips off of them. I always kept a bag of props.
I also put a Fults nose gear on the front because the stock gear isn't very strong. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXH129&P=ML

I got started on this plane over the weekend. It is build nice. The manufactures use what looks like Hot Glue to build the plane, I assume this will be ok. The only problem I have with this ARF is how it is packed. They used stripes of masking tape to hold the control surfaces to the wings. If you are not careful, you can pull the clear part of the covering away from the color. Other then that, so far so good.
