Seagull Ultimate arrived, engine mount issue,,
good evening,
opened up the kit this afternoon, arrived complete and in pefect shape. my issue/question is; the pre-drilled engine mount holes and nut-plates are not clocked at a true 12 and 6 position. the 4 hole pattern is layed-out at almost an 11 and 5 o'clock pattern, as viewed from the front. the manual shows it this exact way in some of it's pictures, but shows it sitting at true 90 degree angles to 12 o'clock also in other pics. this current lay-out will throw off the pitts stlye exhaust when it's mounted and robbing me of a straight line for the throttle rod.... has anyone dealt with this.? if this is the correct and true lay-out, can you explain.? the engine mount box is true and square to the fuselage and making this 4 hole canted pattern very noticable. the plane with all of it's bits and pieces is completely sweet, great quality and appearance, completely impressed,,, looking forward to jumping in getting it sorted out and together. * i think the newly delivered .91 4 stroke is going to be too small for this hoss. just questioning the .91's ability to pull it along. looking for guidance, thanks in adv, |

I really think the engine mount arrangement was designed around using a Saito engine for power. with my 125 installed the upper throttle hole is in perfect alignment. I think they tilt the mounts to aid in getting the stock muffler further under the fusalage and to get the head of the engine away from the top of the cowl. It also sets up the carb inlet close to center on the fuel tank with this arrangement. Using the OS engine you most likely will have to do a little fabrication to get it to work.
I am thinking your .91 will fly it decently but it might be a little under powered. even with the Saito 125 in mine I wish it had more. Here is a picture of how mine looks. |

blade,
thanks for the reply, that makes sense what you say concerning the saito set-up. i have a pitts exhaust incoming and need the engine to sit flush at 9 and 3 o'clock to have their exhaust ports exit underneath evenly. your set up looks sweet, clean and simple. for me, to keep it simple and not turn it into a hack job on my part, i may leave it as is and flip my carb to have the straight alignment with the throttle rod, based on what you've said. i'm curious to read others that reply.. thanks for the help... |
RE: Seagull Ultimate arrived, engine mount issue,,
the plane is designed around a saito. If you are using the OS ou may have to redrill the holes and may have to drop it down a bit so you don't have to cut your cowel all to pieces. Busted's pic showes just how mine is cut up and notice how close to the top of the cowel it sets? I think an OS has a bigger head. I would not go no smaller than a 120 OS or 125 Saito. Also check very carefully the blind nuts inside the fusealage that hold the cabains on. On mine 2 of them were not threaded. and guess which ones they were ! The ones closest to the firewall. and boy what a booger they were to replace !!!! I have 5 flights on mine and really like it. I am still messing with the cg so nothing to report on that but if you go with a 2700 mah 6 volt pack dont place it in the nose section. especially if you use the OS.

should i be o.k. will the standard small reciever battery behind the fuel cell, as in the directions.? also,i see in the directions that it's showing 2 elevator servos, for a total of 6, headed to the local shop today.
as for the interplane wing joints, (support braces) were/are there any pre-scribed marks in the wing surfaces to guide me, or do i have to measure it up manually.? if so, how'd you do it.? thanks in adv. |

c.g. question,
in the directions, it shows 12.5-15cm from leading edge of top wing. is that 12.5 to start and 15 cm as the far limit.? meaning a 5 to 15 allowable gap. thanks, |

RE: Seagull Ultimate arrived, engine mount issue,,
I measured on the top wing at the center conecting rib for proper distance. then i used a sliding square to mark my mesurments at different intervals and used the finger method to see where it ballances. I have heard some folks drill several small holes in the center rib and run string at different measurments and ballance that way but i use the ole finger meathod. i am like Busted I am thinking of putting an evolution 26 gas motor on this plane. I think it will handle it.

RE: Seagull Ultimate arrived, engine mount issue,,
got a set of du-bro rubberized alum mounts last night that match the pre-drilled pattern perfectly.
inventoried everything, will begin the build this afternoon. sure i'll have questions, thanks, |
