Phoenix Extra 300s setup is this good?
Just purchased a Phoenix Extra 300S 46 ARF. I got an O.S. .55AX to go in it and a Futaba 6EXP 6-channel for a radio. Went with all standard servos as that is what it call for. What prop do you recommend for the .55 I was thinking 13x6. Only bad thing is I ordered it from tower and was wanting it here tomorrow or the next day and gonna pay extra but I ordered so much other stuff the 2-day was gonna be $55 so Ill have to wait a year or so til all this Christmas rush gets over with to get it lol. Scheduled date is Dec 24-27 but I think it might take a little longer. Any opinions on this plane are appreciated good or bad. And just to be curious what would the top speed be on this plane in a stragiht line with the 55 AX. Not trying to make a racing plane just never thought about speeds on RC planes.

RE: Phoenix Extra 300s setup is this good?
Nice plane and you should be happy with the .55ax. I built mine with a TT .46 and was not happy with the performance. It lacked the power for nice round loops. I bumped the power up with a Tower Hobbies .75 and the plane came alive. The engine weight was offset with tail weight and my AUW increased to right under 7lbs. Wingloading increased to where landings were pretty exciting. Speed was crazy with the .75 and an 11x8 prop. Never had a flutter.
No real problems with the build. Watch the front dowels on the wing, they will loosen up some over time. I swaped my gear out for the Dubro one piece composite, the stock gear bent pretty good after some rough landings. Control surfaces are really too small for anything 3d. Snaps and spins are real nice. Land with some speed for the first few landings. The wing will drop at stall. |
