GEE BEE..Which One is it?
Was the GEE BEE that you guys are talking about the GEE BEE Z (yellow and black) or the GEE BEE R1/R2 (Red and White)?
I have been emailing everyone who has posted pics of the toledo show and have a pic of a Giant Scale GEE BEE Z sitting on a table. But no one has replied.....:( I NEED TO GET ONE! :devious: |
New GP Gee Bee???
I saw a NICE Gee Bee R-1 or R-2 in a recent Futaba ad and now this explains it. I knew (was hoping) it was probably a future Great Planes product. Yippee! I will be buying one when they are available! I can't believe it showed up in background pictures and no one featured it closeup! To me this would have been the premiere model of Toledo!

New GP Gee Bee???
I spoke to Great Planes about the Gee Bee at Toledo. It will be in late June at a price of $299.00. They told me an engine size of a 2 stroke .75 - .90. Seems kind of small for that size plane... I was also told you can place your order now at Tower Hobbies. I checked the Tower website and did not see it listed yet though.

Thanks to Gregg for sharing his Toledo Pics!:D |
New GP Gee Bee???
Bigprop, there are a few designers that have plans for a big GBZ and that looks to be one of those. Wendell Hostetler has GBZ plans in several scales. Not sure who else has them but I've seen several around in magazines.

New GP Gee Bee???
Yak, thanks for the info. I was hoping to find out if the "Zs" on display at the Toledo Show were indications of ARFs to come. Seems like everyone is doing the R1/R2 (KMP, AMD, GP). Was hoping for a Giant Scale GEE BEE ARF.

New GP Gee Bee???
it looks like either an R1 or an R2. I hope you're right about the engine size, I just happen to have an 0S 91 FX brand new sitting on the shelf.
but like you, it looks a little big for that motor. It would have to be able of "scale" speeds, right??? tony |
New Gee Bee R-1
For you fellow GP GB nuts, check out the Futaba ad in the Feb 2003 Model Aviation. Two pictures of it...exterior (in-flight), and an interior shot of the huge radio compartment. The construction inside the glass fuse is beautiful.

Hey Big Prop,
Glad you like the large scale "Z" - it's mine. What kind of info are you looking for? Basics - > Scratch built from Hostetler 33% "Z" plans > Has a Zenoah GT-80 'under the hood' > Used the custom "Ron's Gear" landing gear as laid out on the plans..... although the whole landing gear/wheelpant installation took about 3 weeks! > Currently weighs in around 31lbs. Considering DuraLites to shave off about 7 ounces. I like the idea of saving the 7 ounces, but the $300 to do it raises the question of how important is that 7 ounces! Also got a pair of SlimLine mufflers on the way - shouldn't be too much louder than the stock Zenoahs, but they'll save another 8-9 ounces. > Covered in MonoKote, used Concept PPG Urethane paint on the fiberglass parts. > No dummy engine that big commercially available.... made some 'plugs' and vacu-formed my own.... not bad for a first effort of something that complex (mainly done canopies and small parts before). That's pretty much the basics.... anything specifically you're looking to know? Drop me a line and ask, I'll see what I can do! Barry :) |
