Flaps Question on an Aresti
I read that some people where setting up their Aresti to use flaps in order to slow the plane down. How much throw are you putting on the flap? Any bad traits? Should I do this or just scrap the idea?
Thanks for your help! m_b |
Flaps Question on an Aresti
m_b,
Never had a problem with the two that I have had. The first few landing were a little fast just to get the feel of it, but then noticed that it would slow down fine before touchdown. I got to where I chopped power to idle before turning on final. Takes a while to bleed off speed. Ed M. |
Flaps Question on an Aresti
So what prop where you using? I have a Tiger Shark .52 and it swings a MAS 11-7 real well. This is a big pitch prop and I am a little worried about getting the plane to slow down with that much pitch.
Thanks for the quick reply. m_b |
Flaps Question on an Aresti
m_b,
more than likely it was a 10 x 7, 10 x 8, 11 x 6 and an 11 x 7. i was using a 46 FX and a 50 SX. Thought mine was fast til it got passed like it had a brick tied to it by one with a YS 45 on it. Ed M. |
Flaps Question on an Aresti
Cool, so the 11-7 should be good if I throttle back early and make sure the idle is at a consistent 2500.
D@mn YS engines. :) m_b |
Flaps Question on an Aresti
I should recieve my Aresti tommorrow. I have a TT .46 PRO and have the same flap question. Also, are you using flaperons or did you modify the wing with flaps. I heard this plane might be a little fast. The hobby shop told me to use an 11 x 7 tobreak in the engine, and an 11 x 6 after that.... Any suggestions? I currently fly an avistar .40 with a 10 x 6 and an os 40la. Any feedback on the speed I should get?
thanks mike;) |
Flaps Question on an Aresti
Mojo Brian,
I have the aresti with the saito 72 on it and I had one hell of a time getting it to slow down with a 12X8 prop on it. I enabled flaperons so that I had about 3/4" throw and although it did slow it down nicely, roll control got really mushy at slow speeds. I wound up changing to a 13X6 and since then it slows down much better. By all means this plane is clean aerodynamically, it takes all of the final approach at idle to slow. However this is drastically improved from the 12X8. Sorry I can't comment on your size prop being as our engine displacements are different, but my advice would be to slow the plane down with prop pitch not flaperons. This is just my .02$, try both methods and see what works for you! |
Flaps Question on an Aresti
m_b,
I forgot that the first one had a Saito 72 on it. Made for a nice flying plane. it would slow down a little faster than with the 2 stroke. Managed to loose both of them when the power lines suddenly moved closer to the field when I was in a full power dive to a low level run across the field. You would think I would learn after the first one. mike_1, Mine was faster with the 2 stoke than the Venus I have now with the same engine. Venus has been clocked at over 110 MPH if this info helps. Flaps Question on an Aresti
bentgear,
did you have a tt .46 or saito .72? What prop did you use? |
Flaps Question on an Aresti
mike1, the 72 was on the first one and since my favorite prop for it is a 13 x 6 APC I am sure I would have been running it. The second one had both a OS 46 and a OS 50 SX installed.

Flaps Question on an Aresti
Wow, great info.
Bentgear, sorry to hear for your loss. I think I will start with an 11-5 MAS and go from there. Mike, I was just going to use Flaperons. I may still try the Flaps, but it doesn't really sound like you need it. I have one more question, I only have 1 rate on my transmitter and wondered if you could only set up one set of throws to begin with would they all be the suggested low rate, or you you speed some of them up? Thanks again! m_b |
Flaps Question on an Aresti
m_b,
I think I would set the rudder to the high rate, ailerons to low and elevator just above low rate and then go from there. You will like the way the plane flies. Ed M. |
Flaps Question on an Aresti
Thanks a lot. I will give a full review after my initial flights.

Flaps Question on an Aresti
ed m,
Think an 12 x 5 might be a little too low in pitch? I want to slow the plane down during my initial flights until I can get used to it. Were you speaking of your .46 that went 100mph? thanks for the feedback mike |
Flaps Question on an Aresti
Guys,
I have been flying my Aresti for about a week now, and I'm wondering if everyone has been using a guide wire on the horizontal and vertical stabs for extra support? Just wanting to know if I should go this route to prevent something drastic from happening. Thanks fellas. |
Flaps Question on an Aresti
Mike,a 12 x 5 will fly it fine. 100 plus was clocked with my Venus and a OS 50, but the Aresti with a OS 46 FX was faster.
Paul, I did not see a need to add any bracing to the tail. To anybody concerned with landing speeds and this plane, fly it a few times and you will get it slowing down. Just keep it out of the power lines. Ed M. |
