I am thinking about getting one to try out.

Did'nt have the arf but did the kit was a great flying plane, but the landing gear bust out easy.

I was looking at these myself, having partially built a Stinger 10. If anybody does decide to buy, I'd definitely like to see some photos.

Yes the gear mounting leaves a lot to be desired, but you can reinforce it to withstand normal use and the occasional hard landing but I would allow some way for it to fail in a bad hit to save the structure from damage. Mine will have a Saito .56 and fly off grass so I will find out how well my mods work.

I recently visited the Tower site, and saw the Lanier Stinger 40 ARF for $99.00. It's funny how I see little interest in these planes on the forums. But that's OK, because every Stinger I saw flew perfectly with no bad habits and I get to save some good money! I can get this for $99.00, and then pocket the change for either a new engine, or perhaps apply it towards a better radio and servos. Why not save $50.00 and get something that's as good or better than a Sig Four-Star? Better still, it's $70.00 less than the GB Tiger 2 I saw at the LHS!

Got mine also for $79.00 on sale! Couldn't resist as well. I have been flying my Kyosho Pitts .40 with a YS .63F and will install this powerhouse on the Stinger. Oughta rock and roll. The biplane is fun but I am tired of it for a while. Anyway, looks to be a fine, well build arf. I have seen Stingers of all sizes fly for years and although they are not that pleasant to look at , all have flown well. Snow and single digit temps are keeping me inside so it is a great time to throw this little thing together.

It looks to me like Tower is trying to close these out, which is unfortunate. I didn't care much for the looks of the Stinger at first, but the smaller ones really do look nice, especially when compared to Tower's Dazzler, Sig's Mid-Star, Great Plane's Easy Sport, and many others. The Stinger, in my opinion, makes Ugly Stiks look... well, UGLY! By the way, I've never seen a Stinger crash and they track like they're on rails, from the .60 all the way up to the giants.

I just got my .40 Stinger ARF and I am very pleased with the construction of it. To lock the wing halves together they use a diehydral brace with holes that lock in when you push the wing hold down dowels through it making a real tight connection. I was impressed with the covering job, and the hardware package which includes everything right down to the fuel tank and wheels. The only thing you need is some glue, everything else is there. Also the cowl is very nicely painted and it's not some flimsy thing either. I cant wait to get my new Super Tiger .40 on the nose of this baby.

With that quality of construction, it's extremely difficult for me to understand why so very few people have made any mention of this ARF. It's been out since last Spring, Tower made it available shortly after Great Planes purchased Lanier/Goldberg. Since that time, the price was reduced TWICE, most likely due to lack of interest. It's very sad that Tower did such a poor job of marketing, and as a result, nobody was ever made aware of its existence. Meanwhile, it seems like everybody just raves about junk from Nitro Planes and CMP as being the best thing since the invention of the electric toaster. So, we all lose yet another quality ARF that would have offered excellent flying characteristics and lasting durability. Pathetic.

What engines are people using on this ARF? I have an older Rossi .40 and a Magnum 52 Fourstroke that I was thinking about using on it. Maybe even a Saito 65, but I thought it might be a little too long and heavy on the front of the Stinger.

I will be using the latest version of the YS .63 with the pushrod mounted regulator. It rocks in my Kyosho Pitts so it had ought to really pull the little Stinger. That Rossi would be nice and light on yours.

You are talking about the 40 size right? a YS63 better pull that thing around!!!!! I think I will use the Rossi. It weighs about the same as the Magnum, and I have been looking for a plane to put it on. Thanks for the help.

I'll throw an OS .46 AX on mine ... its lying around so I might as well use it. ;)

According to Tower, these will take an engine as small as a .32. I think I'll install my 40 LA if I get one.

I had a buddy who built one of the kit, not the ARF. He used an OS .70 4-stroke. Great flying plane.

Yeah, that's what I figured ... this plane is fairly light and on the smaller side for a .46 - can't wait for temps to start rising!

Be sure to upload some photos of your Stinger, MasterAlex. Also, get someone to shoot a maiden video if possible!

hi guys! I recently built a Stinger 40 and a Stinger 10 kit.... in the .40 I have installed a OS .40 SF with Slimline pits muffler and in the Stinger 10 I`m in doubt yet... I have a OS .25 and a Magnum .15... which of them I should install? .25 is too much? .15 is enougth? Both planes haven't flyed yet... I'll take some pictures of them and post here...

Probably gonna order the Stinger 40 Monday but dont know if I want to use a .46LA or .46AX. The plane is fairly light and the LA are so easy. plus about a 50 dollar difference. Hope they got some hats left.

I built the .10 stinger years ago and installed a ASP .12 and it flew very agile. Didn't need any more power. I would say the weight of the .25 would cause other problems such as increased wing loading. I , however , am an advocate of OVERPOWERING. The engine was a ball bearing model. My .40 Stinger will receive the YS .63 since I have it already. kbailey45, I would spend the extra $50.00 and get the AX. Great engine and you will appreciate the power later on IMHO. Also, the Lanier hats are nice. My son has claimed mine (I got grease on his Cabellas hat) so I may have to order another Lanier!!!!!

I built a stinger .40 several yrs ago and powered it with a Fox .15 BBRC. That little Fox was a hoss. I still got the Fox .15, but all thats left of the Stinger .10 is the wing and tail feathers. An unfortunate rendevos with a tree trashed it.

Dog gone you guys! I've got to STOP doing this.

I bought the Stinger 40. Heck it is only priced at $80.00. That is an incredible steal. That makes 6 airplanes to get ready for spring!

I've got a Seagull Decathlon I don't much care for with a 46 Magnum 2 stroke and Hitec 425 servos that I think I'll strip.

Or I could power it with a 72 Saito that I bought for the SIG Rascal that didn't fit. The cowl was too narrow. I bought an OS 52 four stoke for that one.

Here we go again, I just can't resist a deal but now I'm BUMMED! I put in my order for the 40 Stinger with the free hat but as of today it expired! no friggin' hat! It was there yesterday but I stalled until today to order....Engine wise, I could not resist the bullet proof Super Tigre .40 ringed engine and this seems like the perfect plane to put it in..I did get the Tower deal of $25 off the $150 order and free ship.. So with the ST (came with free motor mount) and Stinger and a few odds and ends What a deal...even without the hat.. Boy they know how to set the hook... My second ST .40 ringed, the first has and continues to be such a dependable powerful little dude..Still runs great from idle to wot. Winter in windy Colorado..not many details on builds or reviews of this Lanier, should be an interesting winter project. Keep posting the progress on the construction you guys! All tips and hints are welcome. I don't build very quick........
