Let me tell you search man this plane is veryyyyyyy difficult to balance, you have to move the bat and/or receiver around to balance this .it wont hold a perfect horizontal balance, there is a small margine to balance horizontal you have to find it.What i use is 3.5 in from leading edge just like the manu, but it took me a longggggg time to be satisfied with the balance, also do it inverted.By the way im using os 46 fx.All in all this is a greatttttt plane to fly

balance
Kingtight, as to the balance, 3.5" is pretty conservative. Most people like to fly these at 4" or more. The plane is still very stable (even at slow speeds) at 4".

Kingtight,
This is my second SE with a Saito 72 for POWER! A great combo, but I had to move the battery to the tail so I wouldn't have to add lead weight. I just can't remember where I balanced it for 3D - I know it was at least 4" and maybe back as far as 4.5". I wish I had recorded it because my first SE was awesome! I guess I'll just tape over the hole I cut in the covering in the tail section until she flys like I want it to. You can see the cut out where I stuck my battery in the picture below. |

How does this plane compare to the Magic Extra? They look very similar but the magic is much cheaper.

Hey Mike,
You asked - How does the SE compare to the Magic Extra? They look very similar but the magic is much cheaper. I can't answer your question because I don't have a Magic Extra, but Model Airplane News just came out with the Editors' Top Ten Aerobatic All-Stars (ARFs) and the Sig Somethin' Extra was one of the ten - the Magic Extra was not. |

SearchMan,
What kind of covering did you use for the stripes on the bottom of the wings? DK |

DK,
I used Ultracote Flame Red to cover the bottom of the wing panels - Flame Red is a perfect match. |

Here is a pic of my SE with some mods.
Saito 72 Spinning a 13x6 prop. Removed top 2 inches of Vert. Stab and added it to the Rudder for counter balance! ( KNIFE EDGE ALL DAY!) Cut Elev. Rudder clearence angle to 45deg of throw!!! Taller landing gear! Ultra Coat covering by Iron Art in Collinsville Illinois Running Power Master YS/Saito 20/20 (don't forget your after run oil!!) JR Digital DS811 on Ailerons, Rudder, Elevator This plane will climb out of sight in a 30 second climb!. Hovering is no problem. If there is anyone out there with a similar setup can you tell me your rough CG? I am using stock CG and would like to see how far is possibly too far from someone elses "bravery or stupidity depending on the outcome LOL" |

freefl2,
Nice looking bird! My last SE had the same set up you have (Saito 72 with tall TNT gear) and I had my CG at 4" behind the leading edge - and I think I even moved it back further than that but forgot to check it before I sold the plane. My new SE, I am starting between 4.25 and 4.5 but haven't flown it yet. I my first SE flew great at 4+?. This one is an ARF |
