Has anyone flown one of these? If so, how does it fly. What power are you using. I am thinking it might be a good match for my Saito 56. TIA, cbk

Our LHS owner put together one of these ARFs for himself for the fun of it. His is powered by an old OS50. The assembly was straight forward, the model came out straight and flew great! As far as I can tell, it has no bad flying habits. I'm thinking your Saito 56 will be more than enough. :sunsmiley

I got mine tonight. Covering job is first class. Wheel pants are good quality etc.

One thing I thought I should mention. The engine must be mounted inverted. It is mounted on hard wood rails via two flat plates on either side of the engine mounting lugs. The engine is mounted to the plates and the plates screw into the hard wood rails. The reason I mentioned this is because from the pictures I had seen I thought I could mount the engine sideways and have the muffler come out between the wheels.

I bought a TT 46 Pro and now the muffler is going to stick out of the side of this very pretty bird. Sort of like a wart on the end of your nose! Rather obvious. If I had it to do over I would by a .52 O.S. 4 stroke.

The Rascal at first look is a GREAT looking ARF. A couple of problems I ran into (nothing major). One of the blind nuts for the wheel pants had no threads (1st one of those I have seen). The wheel pants look good but need seam filling on the rear and bottom to have a finished look. I hate the engine mount. I know it makes the fuse more acceptable on different engines (I just don’t like it.....but it does work). The SIG spinner that can with the kit is grossly out of balance. I test ran the OS 52 mounted on the Rascal and the airframe just resonated. I removed the spinner and it clam right down. I think I will pickup an MPI or Great Planes aluminum spinner in its place. I also ran solid pushrods inside the supplied nyrod from Sig. I wonder when Sig will give up on the Nyrod stuff? I’m going to finish up everything else tomorrow and see were it balances out at.

I had no problems putting mine together, used all the stock parts used a Saito .56 w/12x6 prop and the thing has unlimited vertical, does knife edge loops and does touch and go loops like one of my fun flies. I mixed elevator to flaps for tighter loops. I've pulled some high G stuff that I pucker through but so far it's held together, I have a couple of gallons through it since I got it early january. Everyone is amazed at how it flies.....

Got one with about six flights on it and it's my new favorite plane. Powered with a magnum .61 four banger it has plenty of poop! GREAT KIT, very fast to build.... highly recommended!

I had a bad experience with the electric Rascal and I'am sure you've read some of the threads on it.
How does the gas version behave :confused:
Any tendency toward tip stalling at low speeds? Does it really need a bigger than 40 size engine?
I was thinking of a magnum 56FS mainly for appearance.

Judging by the thrust on the ground of the OS 52 I mounted…...it seems sufficient. The kit for $200 bucks is a great deal. I finished it yesterday and balance it without adding any weight. A heavy hub will be all it needs to get it between the balance point of 3-3/8 to 3-7/8. I managed to get the battery up in behind the instrument panel. I believe adding 2-3/4 dubro wheels will probably bring it in to the ideal balance……Time to start the next project….Dynaflight Fly Baby with a G23…Happy Flying….Johnny

I put one of these together for a friend when they just came out. He put an old OS .40 fourstroke in it and I was doubtful it would pull the plane around. First day at the field it did WAY more than that. I watched him pull succesive inside and OUTSIDE loops 5-6 at a time without loosing any altitude. It's a cool little plane and way more aerobatic then you'd think but then it calms down real nice for slow flight and landings. It'll make the newbies look like seasoned vets. I HIGHLY recommend the plane and I think Sig really did their research on this one!

Lands like a dream, make even the most landing retarded flyer look good. Zooms around like crazy, very slow roll rate although. Can't wait to fly it this weekend! A YS-63 would be absolutely perfect on this ship! Goes vertical with the Magnum .61 stroke.BUY IT!!! :cool:

The wing is bolted on isn't it? wing struts? tail wheel assy how good? are the windshields pre molded, require triming?
Gear wire or dural aluminum?

Any more info would be appreciated!
Sounds like everyone is putting big engines on it; so it must be pretty strong. :confused: :(

Well i bit the bullet and bought a Rascal 40 arf. Iam quite impressed with the quality. Iam puttin a .52 OS F/S on the

ANSWER: The best tailwheel assembly I have ever seen in an arf, it'll blow your mind! No wing struts, not needed. Aluminum gear. All windows are already installed, I'm telling you this is the fastest to assemble quality ARF on the market and you'll get tons of oohs and aahhs at your field from the seniors and others. I put a bust of Anakin Skywalker with helmet and gogles, looks great. You will LOVE this ship.

Anyone thought of making this plane a float plane? I have a .61Fx and a set of explorer floats waiting for an airframe. I want a high wing, overpowered, but still aerobatic arf for float flying. Could this be the one?

I have been thinking about this plane as a next step. Currently I have been flying a SIG LT-40, its been a great plane, lots of hours logged.

Last week I attempted to fly an American Flyer by Global. I estimate the wing load around 24 oz per square inch. I wasn’t happy with the way it flew.

Looking at the specifications of the Rascal 40, it seems like it will fly on the wing with similar flight characteristics as a full size aircraft. For any one flying a Rascal, is this a correct ?

Gary, since I started this post I have assembled and flown mine. All I can say is that is flies beautifully. Wing loading feels extremely light. I would almost consider it overpowered with a Saito 56 as it has not only unlimited but balistic vertical. I am used to flying much higher performance planes but liked the way this one looked and gave it a try. I absolutely love it. Is quite aerobatic but lands at a crawl. I do not think you will be disappointed. cbk

If you look in SIG's new dealer pricing catalog they have a picture of the blue Rascal on a set of fiberglass floats they sell w/struts and everything. Plane looks REAL slick. Seems like Sig already beat you guys to that thought huh :p

The plane actually has a second landing gear block in the rear of the radio box with blind nuts installed. I assume this is for floats. cbk

:D This is a great ARF. I just finished an E conversion. It is a natural for electric. I have installed a MaxCim brushless and it is ready to go as soon as the weather cooperates in Western NY.

I may have it at the MaxCim booth at Toledo if we can fit it in the van.

Have a few flights on mine. OS 52 is plenty. Still pretty cold and windy around here so not many chances to get out and enjoy it.
Last time out the gear pulled out on a very gentle landing, as expected there was hardly any glue on the plate. It is back in now with epoxy.
It is a great, fun, all around airplane, gotta see it knife edge loop. You need to really work the elevator to keep it from coming in on you but after a few tries it loops tighter than any aerobat I own.
Can't wait for floats, it already has a mounting block in the back of the fuselage from the factory.

Wadda yuz guys think about a Saito 72 in this pretty little airplane? I just picked up my Rascal last night, and the only four-stroke I have available is the 72. I believe it will fit wherever the 56 will. I checked Sig's website, and it looks like their "Smooth Floats" are geared right at the Rascal! Pricey, though ($149.95).
I think I'll get used to it on the grass before I make the investment in the floats. Dying to try a float plane!

Which is the cheapest place to buy this PLane .. Also , would a Saito 56 be ok or an OS 52 surpass .?
