Has anyone converted the Eflite Pawnee to Fuel?
 

I'm in the process of converting the E-Flite Pawnee to glow. Hanging an OS .25 on the front. Has anyone tried this yet?

The E-flite electric 15 size Pawnee has been out for a while now. It's the glow 40 size that's due out later.

He's talking about converting the electric to glow.

Well. just an update. I did get the project completed. I ened up having to do some pretty radical things to the plane itself. I added an additional 1/4 inch ply firewall to support new wooden beams to mount the motor on. Used laminated basswood for this. On the firewall itself, I made recesses for the beams to fit in and then used additional gussetts on beams themselves and the firewall. The motor was mounted sideways to allow for a somewhat hidden muffler. I used an OS Pitts style muffler for the.25 engine. Minimal cutting was still required on the bottom of the cowling to allow for muffler clearance. I used a remote fueler. The fuel tank is a Sullivan 4 Oz that fit like a glove in the battery compartment. Going with the recommended CG. I ended up putting the Rx battery in the rear of the plane. In order to secure it, I built a balsa battery box to put the battery in and slipped the battery in place and made a cover for it. The CG was right on. Everything else in the built was right with the instructions. I did end up using an E-Flite micro servo for throttle near the firewall. Hopefully it will fly well with plenty of power. I didn't weight it, but the .25 should be more than enough. I didn't take any pictures of what I did, sorry. It was just good old fashioned modeling and figuring out how to do it. I initially thought I could use a long beamed motor mount, but nothing was long enough, so basswood beams was the answer.

Just a final update on the conversion. Per reports, the plane flew great with the set-up and the owner was extremely satisified. The owner said that the .25 was almost too much engine. It caused some unexpected control problems at full throttle. I'm not sure what they were, but a 3/4 throttle and below it was a great flying plane. I guess I would recommend maybe a .15 instead of a .25. The owner said that it flew great at the recommended CG. Now he has to order a new wing because of an overexcited dog that decided to give chase at the end of a flight andd destroyed a large part the wing.

I think every body that are converter a E-flite plabe to gas must put the coment in this forums or open a similar one. I like gas power that electric power.:D
