Flip 3D Setup
Working on my Flip 3D - the gear is confusing to me. The manual shows using the 4x45mm cap screw but the two nuts don't snug up to the wheel and there's no way to get the wheel with the cap screw thru the fiberglass. What am I missing?
Thanks, Dan |

Assuming there's two holes on each side of the wheel pant, here's what to do:
Put the wheel in the pant and slide the bolt thru the outer hole and thru the wheel. Slide a wheel collar on the bolt and then a washer. Tighten up the wheel collar so the wheel can rotate freely. Then put the threaded part of the bolt thru the other hole in the wheel pant. Slide thru the landing gear hold and secure with a locknut on the other side. this kind of installation can be tricky and is made for small hands. Sometimes I place the wheel inside the pant (lay it on its side) then slide the wheel collar and washer on top of the wheel and insert the bolt thru them all at the same time. May sound a little confusing but without showing you - it's the best way to describe it... Hope it helps, Scott |

Another thing you can do... is on the side of the wheel pant that will touch the landing gear... remove a slot the width of the bolt towards the bottom of the wheel pant. Then you can assemble it easier and just slide the wheel with the collar/washer in the pant.

Thanks - I was going according the manual and it shows the cap screw with the wheel on it and then two nuts on the cap screw - the nuts go up the thread and stop at the bare part which leaves way too much for the wheel to spin on - in fact - this setup won't allow for the correct spacing for the metal gear frame to connect the wheel and pant - there is too much screw inside the pant.
So what you are saying is blow off the instructions? Thanks again, Dan |

As an engineer by trade I say "who needs instructions?" :)
been working good for me so far. you might have to occasioanlly tighten the wheel pants - one of them on my venus rotated in flight and I landed on the top part of the pant and scratched up. (I miss our astroturf runway!) |

Fuj,
I know what you mean. The instructed method is crap with what they give you. I bought some real 5/32 axles and the Sullivan pant holder-on-ers. Shame. They give you nice pants and cheesy mount hardware. |
