Jamara {German} ARF's ?
 

Does anyone have experience or opinions
concerning Jamara (German} ARF's ?

I am specifically interested in the
Pilatus Porter and/or the Ryan PT-20,
but comments about Jamara ARF's in
general would be welcome.

I recently bought a Jamara Spitfire 60 on Ebay. A very sharp looking ARF. Construction and parts are excellent; very fine construction, covering and accessories. The only problem, instructions are in German. If you have assembled a couple of arfs' before, it should not be a problem.

I have just about finished installing Dave Brown retracts on the wing halves. It will be a while before the Spitfire is airworthy.

I've seen these on Ebay...the price looks right. A few of them looked like copies of Kyosho ARF's. I'm also interested in how well they are built and how they fly.

Bob, I've purchased two ARF's from Jamara. As mentioned, the kits come from Germany. I purchased mine off of Ebay. The company seems slow on delivery, which was'nt a problem for me. They (Jamara) had alot of negative feedback, in regards to the delivery times. I'm sure some of the buyers had no idea the planes were coming all the way from the fatherland. I purchased the large scale Porter Turbo (they offer 2 sizes) and the Corsair. They both arrive without a scratch. The instructions are in German, but I've heard the company will provide english versions on request. I think the quality of the kits are very good. My Porter is finished, and I only upgraded the push rods and the elevator control horns. The Corsair is still in the box. I checked to make sure all the parts were there, and noticed the cowl was "paper thin" as someone mentioned...they are not the first company to put out a kit with a thin cowl though! I think your best bet is Ebay. I paid $285 for the 95" Porter-delivered, and I have noticed them go for alot less...depends on the ebb & flow of EBay. Well good luck. Their product quality vary from "trash" to "great". Their better models usually come from "CM-Pro" (China Model Productions). Most of the models are of poor quality. Built for "fly-and-crash". Sorry, but thats the way it is.

What seduction2001 says it not completely true! The have the so-called QS-line and that are really high quality airplanes!

I can speak for the F4U Corsair Q-S line ARF by saying we have bought four and all are nice models. Mine was actually sent with English and German instructions, and a baseball cap. I found the quality very good. The cowl is thin but the model needs nose weight to balance, so it will get another coat of fiberglass, someday.

If I remember right Giant Scale Planes is the US conduit for Jamara. He purchased the Corsair and the focke wolf. Both look good. But naturally i would replace the hardware. I had the GSP P-26 peashooter. The only major problem was the landing gear and of course the seam in the middle of the gelcoat fus. The above birds looked really good though.

I have the GSP/Jamara P-51 with a YS 1.20 in it and it is awesome. If you are looking for a good flying warbird with no bad habits. Then this is the one to get. I have the FW190, P-47, Corsair & Hellcat kits (unbuilt). I am having too much fun flying the Mustang. It did take a long time to get the kits from Germany, but they all arrived in excellent condition. If you have assembled a few ARFs, you should have no problems with these. I did paint my Mustang to dress it up a bit. I scaled it after the 4th Air Force, 336th Fighter Squadron (Red Nose) group.
I flew it yesterday and my buddy said, "I thought this is a Mustang not a Pattern Plane." It does a nice job of flying manuevers.
The FW190 & Hellcat are next to be finished.

Hobby People caries a log of Jamara planes under sportsman aviation, I have the 30 size Waco and the 60 size Spitfire. The Waco is a great little bipeplane, seems pretty well build and flies good. The Spitfire is well build, mine is till in the box, but other people say it flies just fine.

I just finished the Jamara Corsair, but have not flown it yet. I thought it was well made. Everything fit together nicely, crisp, clean construction. Cowl thin but looks nice. Directions scanty but it should not be your first model. I got it very cheap from Germany, with the nice hat, so am happy. Put in retracts, eage to fly it. Would buy another at a good price. Is it true that Sportsman is the same factory???

Flew mine on Sunday a few times, it does fly well. The recommended control throws are good for flight, but not for landing. Mine nosed over twice after touch down, due to lack of elevator. That was with the cg being slightly aft and the main gear being pre-bent or re-bent to be in front of the leading edge. Needless to say, it was shocking to see it nose over at such a slow speed with all the precautions taken to avoid just that. Heck it even had 3" tires instead of the 2.25" it came with. Later flights using all the elevator it could supply(full-rate) and 80% expo to soften the stick it landed perfect.
Good thing an extra layer of glass was added to the cowl before the maiden flight or it would have broken for sure.

Bought this recently but it crashed on the first flight. The plane was a great fly, light but stable. The problem was the covering on the wing came off in mid flight. That stalled one wing and it spun in.

When I check the covering on the other wing, it was peeling at the mid point of the leading edge. The covering does not seem to adhear to the wood well. When the airflow got under the covering after about 5 minutes of flying it just rip with a crack.

Got the Jamara Me-109 "Rote Dreizehn" myself and I had the same Problems with the Wingfoil coming off. My ME - kit was over five years old before I built her and I guess the foil they used just wasn't meant to last. First flight and the tail was louder than the 15cc engine due to the free flying foil. Seeming I never liked the silver finish anyhow, I've scaled her up a bit now, oracover Foil and Airbrush "desert finish".
