GP GEE BEE and a DA50! Crazy?
I want to put my DA50 on a GEE BEE. It says 12lbs flying weight. I know it will fit.. It will have an approach speed of 150 kts or so, but would be fun! What is the biggest engine anyone of you have seen on this airplane?

If it balances OK, I say go for it.. I would just probally carbon fiber the wing center section and use HD servos all the way around and make sure all control linkages have zero slop in them. Also look for a prop with a lot of pitch, that is if your looking for speed. APC, makes an 18x12 and an 18x14 that I have used in my moki 210.

Cool, really tempting..We'll see

Most threads on the GeeBee say that it will balance with an OS 120 in the nose. With the DA, you might have to buy two and put the other one in the tail........

RE: GP GEE BEE and a DA50! Crazy?
Most of the so called "horror" stories about Gee Bee flight characteristics, stem from heavy overweight models. If you put a big heavy engine in the nose, and enough weight in the tail to balance it, you will have a pig. And you will help perpetuate the myths as well.

I believe that most of the geebee arf's are designed with the servo's placed in the middle of the plane. Moving the servos to the tail would help a lot with CG

I have an OS 1.60FX in mine with the large Bisson pitts style muffler modified to a large single pipe . I moved the servo mounts to behind the trailing edge of the wing and mine balances with the battery next to the fuel tank..

RE: GP GEE BEE and a DA50! Crazy?
I think most of the problems with the overweight BEEGEE would occur with takeoffs and landings, I would suggest , if you add the DA50 to it to take off like the Space Shuttle. You could build some kind of support to allow you to do that, a launching pad of sorts and landings could be replaced by having a parachute softly bring the plane back to earth, but come to think of it since it will fly like a rocket ship and you are taking off and landing like one you might want to ask this question over in the rocket forum:D

RE: GP GEE BEE and a DA50! Crazy?
Well, I had planned to just strap it to my learjet and drop it from 43000 ft. Think that would work? That way it would help greatly to be nose heavy...
