Bigfish,

I have the GP Extra 300S ARF and installed an OS .46 FX in mine too. It is a great flying plane, you will love it. If you have RealFlght G2, it flies very much like the simulator model (I think add-on pack 1)

The manual and assembly instructions are great. The only things I remember having problems with were:

1. Installing the tail landing gear wire per the instructions interfered with the lowest pre-cut hinge slot on the rudder.

2. The manual did not tell you to install the wing bolt-on reinforcement plate.

Other than that it was straight forward.

Best of luck.

Mine might have been an isolated incident, but my left stab broke while I was wringing mine out (not where I cut the covering either). If I were to put another one together, I would use flying wires on the tail. I also didn't like the way the rudder and elevator pushrods went together, and ended up making them twice (once to the book, once my way). The way the manual with the addendum had me make em' the dowels were shorter and there was a long section of wire on the servo end, which resulted in a lot of flex (especially on the rudder). I made mine the second time by just making the rearmost ends and installing them, marking where to cut the dowels at the servo end as to eliminate as much wire as possible, then made those ends. That worked out much better. By the way, the manual isn't kidding when it warns you about using too much deflection on the elevator, this thing will get really snappy which can be bad if you're not expecting it. That is a really nice flying ARF though, mine was lots of fun.

So JJMILLER1,
Did you get it in ok on half a stab?
Just curious,

Well, I had gone from a flat and level 3/4 throttle pass over the field into a moderately squared climb (where I think it broke), got some altitude ,then I went for my favorite high RPM flatspin (done this a hundred times before), for some reason it took lots of right aileron this time to flatten the spin, and the instant I ended the spin I noticed I had two vertical flight surfaces and only a right stab. If only I had more altitude, I might have been able to get enough airspeed to get back with half the tail surface. I ended up belly flopping it into the soybean field. It was fixable, but GP replaced it anyway, after about 4 months of backorder, that is. Sold the new one to a buddy, I'm playing with gas now.

You've got a keen eye bgi. I'm truly impressed. Didn't think anyone here would recognize one.

I have the 40 ARF and love it. I did sheet the horizontal stab as mine boke out on both side right where the solid peice ends. Of course I have a .91 4s in mine that may have helped cause that a little bit :-]

.91 4s in a .40 aerobat? hehehehe.....

JJ, the blue toy is actually hard to miss - if you know what it is. :D Wish I had more time for mine. I believe it has been in a box for about 6 years along with the 550. :(

Bigfish,

I was able to wrap my battery and receiver in foam, and fit them behind the fuel tank. Over 80 flights and they are secure.

ALso, I needed some lead on the nose to get the cg right, so I wanted the Rx and battery as far forward as possible.
