Cessna 182 CMP engine
 

Hey guys I just ordered a Cessna 182 140 size and I'm thinking about what kind of motor I want to put in her. I'm not sure if I want to put a 2 stroke 4 stroke or gas. The thing I don't want to do is end up hand starting the thing. I eventually want to put it on floats, so I'm wondering if a 2 stroke would be better for that. I'm on a bit of a budget but I probably won't fly it until June or July so that will give me some time to think about it and save for the right thing. The principle things I care about are fuel economy, reliability and power.

I like the looks of that plane but have never built one. Always thought the Saito 150 would be perfect for it though.

Hi,

I use tol had an ST 23oo 2str in this bird.It has vertical unlimited.Scale flying was possible under half throttle.

Just watch the weight on whatever you put on.

This is a relatively heavy plane, so you do not want to overload it.

I've seen a few people do just that.

Also the C.G. should be just slightly aft of the top front wing bolts ( seen from the top of the wings ).

The C.G. in the documentation makes the plane difficult to control.

Also be sure to do something to prohibit any lateral play on the pushrods. You can enclose them with a light ply circle, etc. glued to a former.

Any play can cause fluttering of the tail surfaces, so make sure that everything is tight, but has no binding.

thanks for the help. Question about fuel economy, does a four stroke get better economy than a two stroke? What about for floats?
