GP Lancair, I've flown it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yesterday was the maiden flight of my Great Planes Lancair. In one sentence: It flies just how it looks!!!!!! Awesome. It's powered by an OS .91 Surpass II. Takeoff was just like any other plane, very stable in flight, and landing is the best part. No bad tendencies. To be honest I was very comfortable flying and landing the plane, aside from the regular feeling of flying a brand new plane, I was pretty normal. I did not use flaps at all, because they touch with the fuse and I did not want to take the chance of deploying them and then not being able to retract them. But in honesty they are not needed, not even in landing.
I had some parts missing in the kit, fortunately not major ones. Assembly was just like any other GP ARF. I will try to post some pictures later on and maybe a video. If you have this ARF, go ahead and finish it, you are going to love it. If you don't have it RUN to your hobby shop or put your mouse on 30% nitro and get one. Robert |

GP Lancair, I've flown it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
glad to hear this
i have a crack in my fuse and they are out of stock till end of may.. not even parts around to help out those in need.. so don't bang it up.......i have not yet decided if i want a full refund or a replacement fuse in another 5 weeks. either way might be okay .. and i also might just repair the fuse and keep the one i have. after hearing that others also had cracked fuse parts i could end up with another one cracked just the same.....i will keep watching your post for more flying results.. how well did yours balance.. many report needing lead in the tail.. what was your rtf weight... joe |

With the OS .91 Surpass it balanced perfectly. No extra weight needed. If I remember correctly it was 8.5 pounds.

Great pictures!! Keep on posting them
Can you give us more information on the flying characteristics of the airplane: How docile is it for landings, turns, take offs, recovery How aerobatic is it (axial rolls, etc) are the aileron surfaces enough How slow can it fly How about stalls And anything else you can think of Thanks a lot!! |

Here is the link to the video. The video includes: takeoff, several passes, and the landing. Hopefully it will give an idea of the characteristics of the Lancair.

GP Lancair, I've flown it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
looks good,
I'm just finishing mine with a OS 91fx. I too noticed the flaps sticking to fuse, if you look good you'll see it is probably due to not gapping enough clearence between fuse and flaps. In other words don't CA the flap hinges in until you put the wing on the fuse first. I had to cut a little corner off my flaps because I did like the manuel stated. I CAed mine in first before checking for proper clearence. |

Hi All!
I can't wait til I get mine up in the air! Current dry weight is 8lb 11oz. The power is Saito 100T twin egine. After looking at this gorgeous cowl (begging for a twin), I had to put twin engine in. I had to mount the receiver battery near the rudder section in the fuse and still nose heavy. I am going to put 2 sub c on board glow battery back there too when it arrives. Hopefully this will balance the plane. I guess I can't attach a pic on a reply... :( Maybe I'll start a new thread. Hmmm.. I can edit so I'll try to add few pics. |
Another pic of Saito 100T on Lancair

This is my first twin and I can't wait to hear how this engine will sound.

RE: GP Lancair, I've flown it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
[img]Hi to all,
This Lancair looks great, but I wanted to know more about the Saito 100T, I have one on a Flair Peashooter P26, I love this engine, it starts with no effort, it idles like a baby, it has OK power, still new, so did not lean it out too much, but it has less power than my Yamada 90, I have one complaint though, I find ir noisy with it's 2 long tubes as exhausts, did you guys hear of any silencers I could use on this engine without loosing power to considerably reduce the noise level ? And could you guide me to where I should ask this question if you guys know ? One more positive thing about this engine, is that it has a very very low vibration level.... It's a beauty, apart from the noise. Thanks for any available Info. |
RE: GP Lancair, I've flown it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Put a saito 100 in mine and love it. Gives it a real scale sound and all the pwer you need.
