GP PT-19 engine recommendations?
 

I have a Great Planes PT-19 that needs an engine. I would prefer gas and was looking at the RCS 140. Has anyone installed/flown this combo? Any other engine recommendations appreciated also. Have also thought about a 4-stroke Saito 100 or 120, but Gas is SO much cheaper than Nitro.

I'm planning on using a Satio 100 in mine. Another member of our club has one with a Satio 100 flew great. Dick Pettie (not sure of spelling) used a Satio 100 in his review for RC Report. From what I saw the Satio 100 is on the edge of over kill. The club member's plane took off in about 15 ft and he flew around on 1/3 throttle. The plane is as aerobatic as the real one. If want to do 3D forget it. The plane flies and lands like a low wing cub. Looks like a great cruising, lazy day flying plane.

Thanks for the input! A good, lazy day flyer is what I'm after with this aircraft. My first thought was about putting a Saito 100 in it, but thought about a small gasser after looking at the RCS 140. I like the fact gas is cheaper than nitro, and gas engines tend to be less troublesome. The Saito is quite a bit less expensive to buy though, and if it is enough power, I may just go with the Saito.

I flew mine with an OS .91 and loved it! Not overpowered...

I plan on powering mine with an RCS 1.40. Ghod only knows when I'll find the time to put it together.

Have extensively flown a friends with a 120 Surpass which IMO is a great match. Really is a great lazy-day flier that does great touch'n goes.

We have four of these flying at my club. Mine and another are powered with an OS .91 Surpass. Great combo, very scale like. Great flier. Another has a Saito 100, Even better flier with a LOT more power. These three wiegh in at just under 10 lbs all with on-board glow. The last one is powered by a G23 gas engine. What a PIG. You wouldn't even suspect they were the same planes unless some one told you. The Difference you ask? About three extra pounds between the weight of the G23 and ALL THE LEAD he had to add to the tail to get it balance. And yes, he moved servos and electroncs to the rear.

It may be larger that needed for the PT-19....BUT it is ONE GREAT engine- you'll love it!

PT-19 Engine Recommendations
 

Anyone out there used a OS Max 91FX or OS Max 1.08 2cycle? I have airplane and Robart robostruts, going to start assembly this weekend. Looking for some feedback on this plane with a 2 cycle. Also, is everyone mounting the engine diagonal, sideways, or inverted? Lastly, anybody using on board glow starter, particularly at idle? If so what brand.

The Hanger 9 PT-19 is/was a great plane. Mine has a 25cc homelite weed-eater engine that was converted to R/C use. It flies great, has plenty of power, and floats forever when landing. I don't know how the GP PT-19 is compared to the H9 one, but my plane weighs 15 pounds. I spin a 18x8 prop.

I just bought a GP PT-19. I want to put a Saito 100 in mine but am not sure if I need a 90 deg exhaust header to conceal under the cowl. Does anybody know???

Here's mine......fly's great with an OS .91FX..........after I installed a Perry P-30 pump to keep the engine running.

Is that an OS .61?? I have one in my trainer. How does it fly with a 2-stroke?? I wanted to go 4-stroke to keep it scale. I just don't know if the OS .91 Surpass will be enough once I get use to the how this bird flies. I know this is not a plane for 3-D but I do want resonable power but not overkill. Will the .91 Surpass be enough??
