To all that are considering purchasing one of the DJ2 ARF's beware.
I purchased one and attempted to fly it today with no success. The motor was inadequate to get the plane airborne. The plane also would not track straight down the runway after many attempts at adjusting wheels. Moral of the story don't trust the cheap marketing video's you see. They are marketing tools and don't mean a product is capable of anything. I take it the Japanese guys in the video were laughing for a reason.

Hmm, the model the guys are laughing at isn't even a DJ-2. The DJ-2 is the model shown taking off from the grass under it's own power.

On to the topic, have you played with or changed the incidence of your plane yet?
And, who did you purchase the plane from?
Are they willing to take it back?
Have you tried the max battery or motor available yet?

Answer a few of these, and perhaps we can narrow down a solution for you.

You really have no way of changing much of anything with this setup. I wish you could see what I'm talking about.
The plane was purchased from MRC Altech.
To my knowledge this is the only motor available for this plane.
No they will not take it back this is the reason for the post.
So that others don't get taken. I can't find one person that has one that flies other than O.K who builds the planes the only thing I've seen is a short video clip of a flight which shows the plane fly. The plane is very light and should not require any additional custom applications to get it airborne. Instructions were followed to the T. Those I could read the motor instructions were all Japanese

What fuel are you running in the engine?
What plug did you install?
Did you balance the fan?
How long is the pipe?
What RPM's are you getting at full throttle?

A friend of mine flies the DJ1 and the new DJ2 and it performs the same way as seen on the videos. It lifts from a short cutted grass runway. The critical thing on the Ducted fan unit is the proper adjustment of the engine and the length of the tuned pipe. You need to find the engines peak RPM to get this glow impeller planes up. Otherwise, the plane wont lift off. 10% Nitromethan is sufficient, but more is not necessarily better.

The engine also needs at least 5 tanks of fuel to develope its performance.

Mike, I own this plane and mine fly (barely) with some modification done to the wheel. First I replace the nose wheel and make it
steerable by adding an extra servo. Then to the main gear,
I use a music wire to extend the length between the 2 wheels,
so that they are like 12 inches apart. This make the plane
very easy to taxi and I am able to track straight down the
runway for 200 ft before it aquire enough speed to take off :stupid: .

But I do have a serious problem with the fuel feeding.
The fuel tank is located ahead of the engine for like 1 feet,
when I point the nose up over 20 degree, the engine
starts getting rich it loss power, or if I point it down
20 degree, it slow down by getting lean. I don't know
what to do with it. Please tell me if you have the same
problem.

Fly's just fine for me
 

It does fly indeed :cool: ok it is no speed demon but it is stable in the air. I have the DJ-3, and speed in a little slower than the DJ-3 If I had to guess at it I would say in the 50-55 MPH range.
I got mine HERE and Mark was very helpfull in setting up the power unit.
One thing that should be done is get the fan balanced but that is with any DF unit takes only a litttle while to do and no different than doing a prop.
The non steering problem is on all the DJ series of planes but other than they they do fly well.
