How much weight is too much
I'm trying to get my UltraStik 40 with an OS FS 70II to balance. I put it on the balance machine last night at the recommend balance point and I had to place 6 oz of weight on the elevator to make it balance. Now I know that I can't secure the weight on the elevator, but I figure by the time I move the weight to the wing saddle opening, I will have to add about 18 oz. Do you think that the is too much weight in the airplane? Anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do to keep the weight down. The battery is as far back as it will go and I really don't want to cut the covering, if I don't have to. Should I just save the OS engine for another airplane?
Thanks for the help |
How much weight is too much
That sounds about normal for a Stick. You can cut a hatch opening on the underside at the back of the fuse, just in front of the tail feathers and add the weight there. Replace the hatch with your cutout and cover or don't cover the choice is yours.
Or move your servos for Elev. and rudder to the backend of the fuse. There are some post in RCU with pictures showing examples. Do a search. |
How much weight is too much
Personally, I think that is too much weight to add. Just my opinion. I have about 12 planes and none of them have a bit of extra weight added.
Is there any way you can remove weight from the nose? Lighter muffler, spinner, wheel, etc? Maybe even move the fuel tank aft and use a pump. Tom |
