New Cermark Pitts
I just received my new, blue Cermark Pitts and couldn't be happier. My original Red one is now 2 years old and remains one of my favorites, but after looking at the new one I think I will like it even better. The blue sheme is much better in person than the pictures and the covering is head and shoulders above the original. The gear is painted and has lightening holes, the spinner and pants, and cowl too are painted near perfectly.
The cabanes are now aluminum and should eliminate any fears of them blowing apart as I had read the old ones did (mine are still holding strong after 2 years of violent tumbling). The interplane struts have an ingenious integrated thumb screw setup which should eliminate any tools for their assembly and are prealigned at the factory. The cowl too is premounted (as was the original). Elevator servos are now in the tail. The pull pull worked fine but assembly should be much easier. If it flies as well as the original, it should be a winner. cbk |

Most interested in your extended comments after you fly the new bird. I closely inspected the blue Pitts at the IMS show and I thought it was great. Since I only live 1/2 hour away from Cermark, I can be tempted.....

Got mine!
I just got mine today and plan on using a G26 converted to electronic ignition by Ralph Cunningham. Should be a nice combination! Beautuful plane!!!
By the way... for you guys living in California who don't want to pay sales tax and would like to save money over what Cermark sells these for, I know of a supplier who will make you a very nice deal on price, no tax and very decent shipping. |

Alan, pass on the info! It's not like Grey Davis is going to miss our tax revenue!

On the way!
Dan,
Sent you email with the web link. |
No secrets
I'm not withholding any secrets... just trying to follow RCU rules by not posting the link here on-line. Just email me and I'll pass along where I got a good deal. :D

Good deal
Cool... I'll try then because there seems to be many who would like to know. I bought mine from www.ultimate-rc.com and got a great deal considering I'm a Californian and would have had to pay taxes ordering from the dealer. His shipping charges are VERY low also. Check it out!

Hey guys - what servos are you using on the new cermark and what's your thoughts on a moki 1.8 for power?
thanks tfacr |
Servos
Might be overkill but I'm going to use Hitec 5645 digitals all around. :D

Red Pitts No More
I may be putting my blue Pitts together sooner than anticipated. On my 3rd flight yesterday, I was doing a blender which resulted a VERY flat inverted spin. As I watched it autoraotate into the ground  , I was happy Cermark reintroduced this kit!! Hope the new one flies as well as the old did. cbk

You could'nt get it to come out of the spin? how much altitude did you have to work with?
|
Spin
I had plenty of altitude to recover. Seemed like forever that it spun. tried bursts of throttle coupled with any combination of rudder, elevator and ailerons in all directions. I even had time to let everyone around know so they could watch the demise. Have only seen one other plane that did not want to recover from a flat spin like this (a cub) but it eventually would with full right rudder and throttle. I am sure in the right hands it could have been saved but not by my fingers. Craig

oh man , I had a pizza box plane that did the same thing to me. I'm suprised a cub would do that too!

New Cermark Pitts
Let us know how well the Pitts survived its forced encounter with mother earth - worth rebuilding? Thoughts on why it might have done this? Have you asked the guru's at Cermark why hte plane failed to respond?

New Cermark Pitts
Remember Art Scholl? He died doing a flat spin for a movie. Sometimes they just will not come out.

New Cermark Pitts
I believe you're right.... CBK07.. sorry to hear of your pitts going down...aren't you glad you didn't sell that blue/white one to me??? :)

New Cermark Pitts
I didn't realize that Art Scholl crashed due to a flat spin, I thought the cause was undetermined, that he just disappeared into the ocean

New Cermark Pitts
The way I remember the details on Art Scholl was that he was filming a shot for a movie( I think Top Gun), there was some camera equipment mounted in the back of the cockpit above the pilots head. There was some speculation that the equipment moved the cg too far back. This is from memory and it happened several years ago so I may not have all the facts.

Since I was not sure of all the datails I did some surfing and came up with this on Art Scholl:
The official NTSB report: NTSB ID: LAX85LA393, Microfiche # 30347A Accident occurred 9-16-85 at Carlesbad, CA Aircraft: Pitts S-2A, Registration: N13AS Injuries: 1 Fatal After completing an upright spin over the Pacific ocean during the filming of a movie (Top Gun) viewed from the spinning aircraft, the pilot climbed his aircraft back to the entry altitude and entered a flat inverted spin. The aircraft was observed to spin through its recovery altitude at which time the pilot radioed "I have a problem, I have a real problem." Neither the pilot nor the aircraft were recovered. Probable Cause: Stall/spin. Intentional. Pilot in command. Descent not corrected. Pilot in command. Many miss watching the magic only Art could perform - he will always be with us, though, in spirit. |
