Rascal 40 flaperons...??
Has any one tried to using the flaperons or crow setting to help keep the Rascal 40 from floating on landing??[8D]

RE: Rascal 40 flaperons...??
I have not tried it, but I would think that spoilerons would be a better idea. Flaperons create wash-in at the tips and can increase the likelihood of tip stall, whereas spoilerons create wash-out and make tips stall less likely. Flaperons and spoilerons both shorten the landing by increasing drag, the difference is that with flaperons the nose will be lower on approach and with spoilerons it will be higher. Same result. Shorter landings.

RE: Rascal 40 flaperons...??
I use flaperons on my Rascal Forty and there are no bad habits to worry about on this particular airplane. I cannot vouch for any other though. If you want to see them in action, I am landing in this video every time with flaperons deployed:
http://media.putfile.com/Sig-Rascal-Forty Edit: Alright, it's been awhile since I watched this video and I cannot be certain the two first touch and goes had the flaperons deployed. But for sure the final landing does, and you can hear the 'click' of the Tx when I retract them after landing and you can also see them in the deployed position before I swtich the Tx. |

Kmot, your Rascal still looks floaty on landing in the video but it is awfully windy whcih will try to keep the plane flying. . I think I will try spoilerons because they kill lift and add drag. Flaperons add drag but increase lift which is the opposite of what I am trying for. Thankx for your feedback. :D
