I am ready to assemble my modeltech magic and I have a few more questions.

1 I will be installing a 46 fx and from what I have read I will need weight in the tail. I will be installing the rudder servo in front of the vertical stab. Also instead of lead I thought I would start with a tail wheel. Any opinions on this?

Where can I buy both a good tail wheel and a pull pull cable system? I also need a large servo arm for the rudder. Thanks.

After looking a little closer I don't see any way to put a tailwheel on. There isnt any way to hook it to the rudder and since I will be installing the rudder servo on the top of the fuselage i cant hook the tailwheel directly to the servo. I guess thats why they don't come with tailwheels. I wonder if I could hook up a sullivan tailwheel and just let it "float". Any opinions?

I have a .46 LA and a mini (.6 oz) servo just in front of the stab and the balance is perfect. With the FX you could use a standard servo in front of the stab and you'll be prett close on the CG with no lead.

I used the stock skid and it works ok once you get used to taxiing with down elevator to lift the tail and bursting the throttle to turn. The only time it's a problem is on a windy day.

I have a 46FX on mine also and had to add lead.

I would say definitely get a tail wheel. The plane will take off in 5 feet (ok, maybe 10), but you can't taxi worth a darn without one.

I don't know how you'd hook up a tail wheel with the servo back there. I have mine set up with another push rod from the servo, but mine's up front.

Well- The only one I have seen that worked was my dads...

He attached some piano wire to the linkage for the rudder (where it exits the plane..) and attached it to the tail wheel assembly-

When the pushrod moves it also moves the tailwheel- Worked great- (couple of z-bends and your set-)

Make sure when the student comes to hook up the trainer cord the MASTER goes into your radio and STUDENT goes into their { box } :stupid:

Whats your opinion on installing a sullivan tailwheel and just letting it float back and forth?

I don't think that would work very well..... Unless you used a spring on the tail wheel mount itself to make the wheel "right" itself.

I would think that even a fixed tailwheel would work better than a wire don't you?

I currently have a Sullivan Tail wheel floating around back there... It barely does anything unless you are on the gas-

Mike- I tried the spring thing... Kinda worked- but nothing impressive-

Are you guys buying bigger motor mounts to stick on the Magic? I bought one with a TT 42GP and it is definitely on the moderate side...

I got an OS-50FSR Heli engine I want to throw on the magic!
