second battery for retract servo??

I was talking to the LHS and they suggested a second battery for the retract servo, I was told it is possible for the wheels to get a knock on takeoff and when retracted not lock in causing the servo to keep on running and possible drain the battery. I believe you can use a Y harness running to a second battery and the retracts and cut the red wire running to the receiver so the servo still get the signal from the receiver but draws the power from the second battery…

Anyone done this??, Is it worth it as I had a fairly bumpy grass strip and can see this happening

second battery for retract servo??

I wouldnt fly without doing this. For the sake of buying a second battery you could save a $1000 plane. I have had the retracts bend on take off once already and if not for the second battery it would be dust.

I have a wiring diagram but cant put it on here yet as i am at work.

If you give me your email I will get a copy to you.

Heres the ticket

Matty,

I was just asking about a battery back-up system on another post and STLPilot gave me the best answer I have seen so far. Here is the RCU thread if you are interested.

He provides pictures of the installation and provides good information insight regarding using a Y-harness for a servo and battery back-up. It's called the battery backer put out out by

http://www.emsjomar.com

I ordered one myself for a Da 50 going into a Pitts. I haven't tried it yet, but it sure seems like the right fix to answer your question. STLPilot uses it and is convinced this is the ticket..
