Just ordered this new Kyosho Hein 50. Provide photos of the building process/finished product in a couple weeks. Powerplant will be a Thunder Tiger F-54, YS63 or OS FS56A.

I have one of these in a box would be interested to know how it goes. Thought the 75 FS may be a bit over the top it is not a big plane, Have a TT54 FS for the front of mine when I eventually build it

I have the green version and was considering dropping the OS 70 ultimate FS into him; I agree that much engine would be just too much since the wing span is around 52" and this particular engine calls out for 13"props. Am thinking more along the lines of a Saito 50.

RE: Kyosho Hein 50 GP

The Hein has a 55.3 inch wingspan. It comes out tail heavy with a 50 size 4 banger on it. I have two friends here that have the FW190 50 GP/OS61fx, and the Spitfire 50 GP with a Saito 82. Both fit in the cowling, look and fly great. I'm into bigger engines rather than bigger batteries, and lead. That's just me. Heck I'm just into as large of powerplant as I can fit in the cowling! Key West has 10-15 knot winds every time we fly. So it's like the planes already moving as it sits! There's people putting YS110's on the Kyosho Kelly. Adding 5oz of lead to the tail to make it CG. The Kelly has the same exact wingspan as the Hein, and almost same wing area. It is recommended to have a 70 four stroke:

Kyosho is wacko for putting the same size 4 stroke as 2 stroke on their box.

Hi!
A .61 four-stroke is perfect for the Hein.

If there were such thing? Never heard of a 61 four stroke. Hehe.

RE: Kyosho Hein 50 GP

Radar, you would have to tell me that it comes out tail heavy with a .50; that necessitates the use of a larger engine, I agree, no point in using lead in place of h.p. BTW, I really like the camo scheme and will try to score one soon.

I have. That isn't an overly popular four stroke design now, but it has been in recent years.

Even if there was... I'd still put a 70ish 4 banger in it. Like I am. TT75. I thought about the YS63. Haven't made the confrimed decision yet though. Like the black muffler on the TT. If I get the YS i'm using a header. Don't really want to spend the money on the YS for this though. Eh.. Keep changing my mind. I'll order the engine next week and let everyone know.

Hmm.. I'm talking to myself. OS 56fs-a it is. So a little larger battery in the front for balance it will be! Most likely 6V Hydrimax 1400mah. Had my reasons. OS56FS-a has great reliability, awesome power(close to a 70), less oil residue, and great fuel economy. I think I'll like it. I should for the price. HA!

dont worry the real ki61 was slower than the fw-190 or the spitfire so you will be alright.[sm=wink_smile.gif]

Let us know how it flys with that engine will you? I've been eyeing that plane for a while now and thinking about putting either a .46FX or .55AX in the nose of it.

An elite pilot can out maneuver a veteran regardless of the top speed. Both aircraft are very capable of quick acceleration. So we'll see who can do the split S in an instant JOSE! When did you become an RC Universe member? December of 2007!? HAHAHAHA! NOVICE!

46 or 55 would be an economical choice that's for sure. Not sure how well that would fit on the Hein though. Cowl is a little narrow. Kinda tough for a Pitts or the standard exhaust. Jrod has a 61fx with pitts on his FW190. Round cowl makes it work great.

I have built and flown my Hein with a OS 52. It flies great and is plenty fast at 3/4 to full throttle. I don't know who has built one of these planes and said they are tail heavy. I needed 1.75 oz weight in the tail to balance with the reciever in the recommended position foward of the servos and the battery under the servos. A OS 56 would be a great power plant for this bird because of it's small size. There is not much cowl to this plane and a 70 size FS would just stick out too far. Also, there are two problems this plane that I have posted over in the warbird forum. The motor mount does not line up correctly on the horizontal centerline marking on the firewall and the stated CG of 110 to 115mm is too far back. This model will fly tail heavy at even at the 110mm mark. I balanced at the 105mm and it flies perfectly. Almost too perfectly as it will stay in exactly the attitude you leave it in. It will have no tendency to level out of even a small dive. It will continue in the attitude right into the ground if left without any correction. This tells me that the CG is right on the edge. It takes off and lands like it is on rails with virtually no control imput except just a little elevator for lift off and flare for landing. You will need to add a lot of weight with a large engine. This airframe is also pretty aerodynamic so it is pretty quick but lands without flaps just like the FW190. My flying buddy has a FW190 with a OS 56a and it is a rocket and flies like it has a 70 in it. I would have put a OS 56a in my Hein but didn't have the $260 extra when I already had the 52. I also built a 190 for a customer with a Saito 72 and it needed 2.75 ounces of weight to balance correctly. If people are not adding any tail weight with the large power they are describing then they are flying nose heavy. All up weight of my Hein is 6.5 pounds. I have included a picture of the improper motor mount alignment with the pre-cut mount holes showing how the mount ends up in the middle of the mount instead of in line with the motor side of the mount rail. I have PM'd Tim Johnson of Kyosho and he is looking into it.

I was looking at the VQ Ki-61i "TONY" yesterday and today I see this thread and it looks like the same plane with slightly different specs, The VQ is a little bigger and might handle the bigger engines better. but very close looking. might get one myself for spring.

When I look at the two, the Kyosho seems more accurate. I googled the K61 and looked at the pictures. The canopy on the VQ appears to be to low on the lower front side and the sliding canopy itself. Although, the Tony had a few canopy variants, it still looks a little odd. Also, the covering is more accurate on the Kyosho, especially around the tail area. It is my understanding that most companies will not make an exact copy of any specific fighter so not to offend any relatives of any downed pilots which means no manufacturer has a "perfect" copy. Just a for what it's worth: I have the Kyosho green and it says 40 size on the box, but the dimensions are identical to the camo version. I think the camo guy looks more cool. Chris mentioned that it stays pretty much where you put it, neutral stability maybe?

Yes I've seen them fly them, (they fly at one of the clubs I belong to) That's what go me interested in the warbirds but I have engines on hand and none that would be good for the Kyosho. They use either the saito 62 on a 56. There is one of them flying the spit on a Saito 48 I think and it flies well with it. I have either a Webra 50 or a Magnum 70 to use in it so I might go the VQ option but those Kyosho war birds do look nice. I'v seen the FW190, The P40 and the Spitfire fly.

No disrespect to VQ <as I really like their new Dago Red!> they muff up the canopy on 99% of their models. Yes they fly real well, no doubt but please, who ever makes the canopys and pulls the plugs... fire him!!
