DP Edge, New Question or Two
Guys,
I just started putting this thing together, and I used the four, 1/2" 4-40 screws that go into the horizontal stab adjustment bar (tiny little bar) The instructions don't state what length 4-40 screws are to be used to hold the stab onto the MAIN stab bar (large bar). These are the 4-40 screws that are to be drilled and tapped for. What length do I use for these drilled and tapped screws? Thanks for any help fellas. |

i just guessing but i think on longer than 1 inch and you will be fine the extra will just go inside the tube or stick out slightly on the stab.......

DP Edge, New Question or Two
krazyc,
One other main concern I have is with the mounting of the control horns. The horns themselves look fine, but they mount with only wood screws to hold them in. The instructions say to drop CA glue in each pilot hole and then mount them. I am concerned if these will hold up, because even on my tiny little 40-60 sized planes, the control horns use machine screws that go ALL THE WAY THROUGH the control surface and then into the backplate. Why does DP use wood screws that don't even exit the opposite side of the control surface? Should I upgrade the hardware? |

i am flying those horns socket head servo screws that microfasters sells. they are holding up great the servo screw is like a sheet metal screw that is about 5/8 to 3/4 inch long. once u harder the wood with ca it quite a stong hold just dont scrip the screw hold out by over tighten. This set up is on a DP EXtra running a Brison 3.2 22 x 8 menz 3-8411 2-5625 hitec....

I think the screws are 3/4". Regarding the horns, I threw the Sullivans out and used Rocket City #10 Pull-Pull horns. I used the Sullivans in a H9 Cap and the DP Ultimate. I just don't think they're that great. If you want to use Horns I recommend the Dubro Large scale. BTW, I just finished, well almost finished, my Edge. It came out WAY nose heavy - had I known this I would have used the elevator servos instead of the pull pull.

control horns
I think the instructions say to mount the horn, remove the screw, put a drop of thin CA in the hole, then mount the horn again. Now you have to remove the screw again and ad another drop of thin CA, let fully cure then youcan remount. Make sure the process is done twice.

IFLYEM,
You are correct. That is exactly what the instructions call for, but I just don't feel it is sufficient. |

I did this method on my Sig 300XS. Unfortunately I lost the airplane, but I can say that the crash stripped out both elevator servos but none of the control horns failed. :D
