ORIGINAL: 0257 Well, first flight is done. take off was very fast, the engine has power for unlimited verticals. After few meters it started to climb. I had to click several times the down trim to fly it straight. All the acrobatic manoeuvres were without problems, knife edge needed just a little rudder use. Anyway the model doesnt fly like on rails at all. I would compare the flight characteristics to Pitts byplane I used to fly. Landing... that is another think. I got a side wind, not very strong but the conditions were not ideal. When I tried to land for the first time I slowly approached, the landing gear met the ground and whole plane did quite a large jump. So I used a full throtle and tried it again. Next time it looked better. When I touched the ground I made few little jumps, everythink looked good when suddenly whole plane fliped over its nose. Afterwards I found the landing gear broke in a place of weld joint. That was the reason why the plane fliped. The wheel covers are both cracked. And the video, thats a story. My father brought a new videocamera with tripod to the field. He filmed every important moment. After the crash he found he flmed NOTHING, not a second of the flight. He was nervous as well and used a wrong button :eek: After that he was so self blaming I felt sorry for him :) OK, my plan is to rebuild the landing gear with a slightly stronger wire. I am not sure if I can repair the wheel covering. And I try not to fly in a crosswind. :) |

Your GeeBee will be lighter then mine, I believe without a crosswind on a fine landingfield everything can go just right. In fact I would say even with the 40cc engine it is still quite light. On the other hand, the power of a huge engine, that is really something.. like in 1931 :D It is not a aerobatic plane but it is predictible all the time. It is just short fuselage plane with high landing gear. Lets try it again :D Good luck to you too [8D] |

well im flying mine in the morning loaded with a 26i crrc petrol ill post some pictures and some video off its maiden plus ill post it on U-TUBE look out for geebeez seagull there will be unless i smash it into a billion bits lol

Hey Guys anymore Flight reports ? good or bad.
I've heard that these planes require a gentle hand on the throttle due to torque roll ?. I have just picked one up & was thinking about getting some oleo struts to minimise the bounce during landings, any other tips ?. Cheers Steffan. |

Aghh !! that doesn't sound good [&o].
I have a Saito 170R3 waiting for an Fw190 that is taking for ever to build so thought I'd try this out to get some time on the engine. Will have to continue & hope 1st, the engine produces enough grunt 2nd that she performs better than Doc's experience with this bird. Only two flight reports so far ..1 ok 1 not so good ,getting worried[:o]. Might do the first flight without the wheel pants to reduce alittle drag.;) |

Hi guys,
I have flown it and she flys like a trainer. i had a perfect sunday there were about 40 members at our field that day ,so i ran her up taxi'ed her out to my supprise there were about twenty members with camers phones video cams so i couldent f-k it up presure on. so i opened her up slowly before i knew it her tail was up and she was airborn quite gracefully. so i flew her about for four laps she needed miner trim and had loads of power (CCCR 26icc). you do need some rudder in the turns thoe WOW what a great little bird she is. NOW for the crap bits you do need to cream the landings if your field is bumpy dont bother your just end up breaking it. mine landed ok but i did manage to tip her on her nose three times on the fouth i broke my spats and at £40.00 a shot you really need to polish your aproche. spot on so i would say that if you guys want something that will not be forgotton at the field enjoy this fab littlle planee here is some pictures of mine www.theslams.co.uk/photos.htm there is also some of my other planes on here as well (cap232, voodoo mustang, and some video but got none off the geebeez yet put on.:D but there are others on there so enjoy graham out .............. |

I have a set of oleo struts coming from the UK for mine & was thinking of using Du Bro Big wheels ( inflatable type ) as our strip is rock hard, how do you think this set up would be for landings Graham ?planning on flying the first few with out the wheel pants/covers. Also doe's she handle the extra weight in the nose ok, as the 170R3 is a heavy monster?. And lastly C.O.G. did you set it as per the manual ?. Thanks for the flight report sounds like it 's a nice flyer, it certainly looks the part. Moving the family back to the city next week then will make a start on her. Cheers Steffan. |

Sorry to everyone if I am in the wrong area for this question, I am new at this site. I have a Hangar 9 P-47 150. I've seen some videos with a Moki 1.8 and I have a Moki 2.1 I would like to put in it. Any input on wether this would be okay would be greatly appreciated. If it's fast, that's okay.....that's how I like them. Thanks for any and all input.

You need to check out this forum it will tell you all you need. I personally think that a 1.80 moki is waaaaaaay more than enough. I have a OS 160 fx in a 18 lb staggerwing and it flys it fine actually more than enough for it, so i put a OS 160 fx in my hangar 9 p-47 150. So i say save the 2.10 for something a lot bigger.

Have finally made a start on my Gee Bee , first thing was to replace that pilot with a more period scale type pilot.
I had an old full bodied PH the pilot people 1/6th scale pilot who was cut in half, had his head sown back on and some new clothes fitted, looks better than the original I reckon. |

Mounted the FA170R3 & all fits well under the large cowl , may use the dummy radial to create some baffling.:D

My struts from Unitracts in the UK turned up the other day, fitted them up the other night on night shift
,nice smooth action and the fit is perfect with the wheel pants. |

PSJDBF It looks good man great to see you have gone to the extra lengths with your set up, sweet donk too.
I still haven't got around to finishing the last few details of mine yet. Havent had time to fly anything lately. So have you got somewhere nice to fly it up at Pannawonica. All i have to do to fly mine is mount the receiver batt and fuel tank and its ready to go. My biggest problem is finding a nice bit of flat ground to land on, i think ill have to join one of the clubs in Perth and stop flying in my mates rough paddocks. Im interested to hear your opinions of the landing gear you got. Just out of interest how much$$$$ for the set up. Cheers Gus |

Hey Gus , We've got a good strip to fly off as long as the motor bikes & 4wd,s keep off it.
My flying buddy has a trailer which he has fitted up with a small dozer blade so we grade it every so often to keep it smooth. The oleo struts were just over the $100.00 Aus mark ,you tell them your measurements & style you want & they will whip 'em up & ship them out for you in a couple of weeks. I had mine made up with a total length of 170mm & this allows me to connect the wheel pants as per the original set up. I have to do an extra stint up here this week then down to Secret Harbour to to see the family as the've just moved down there , then the big maiden I hope. Here's a vid I posted on utube of one of my planes ,it also shows Wilkies trailer grading the strip if your interested in seeing where we fly ,the red dirt is a pain in the you know what though !!.
