Victor,

yes that is a Chesey. He's about 7 years old now and weights 120lbs. Very strong and still thinks he's a pup. He let's me know when anyone gets close to the yard! lol

RE: The Man Cave

I've got a chessy as well. They're unmistakeable. Absolutely beautiful dogs. Mine is SOO loyal, and rediculously smart. Bound to be the sweetest dog I've ever met. He's very tender and careful around my planes, but if I crank up my car he HAS to chase. He can't NOT chase it. He's such a good dog though, I've literally taken food out of his mouth and he hasn't so much as started to growl. He's very protective of his home turf. If we're outside, he can deal with strangers (as long as they're not aggressive towards us)....but I pity the stranger that tries to come in our house without us being outside. He's great with kids...we have a picture of an 18month old child taking the tennis ball out of his mouth (he's become REALLY attached to his tennis balls) and then he played fetch with him for 30 min's. Never knocked him over. He also licks his mouth before he drools, and won't come inside or get in a car unless directly told to. He's about to be 10, I think. He looks a lot like yours. He's at about 120lbs as well. They're great dogs, aren't they?

Victor,

Your chessy sounds exactly like mine. Extremely loyal!! Can't keep him out of the water either!

North Dakota Kid, did you make any progress today on the Man Cave? It was 40 degrees here so I could only imagine how cold it was there.

RE: The Man Cave

We live on a golf course. The only time he ever leaves home is during the summer to go to the water hazards. We've caught him swimming in frozen-over water hazards before....but that was when he was 1 and 2. Hasn't done it since he's gotten old.

RE: The Man Cave

No, no progress today...I had school today...plus it was about -20 here, plus wind chill. It was freezing. With my school, and dad working, we might not get any done till friday...and the weekend. I have a date friday ;) so dad might be on his own then. Its an easy build, but slow going when you only have the weekends.

Here is a pic of my dog. She is a 100lb American Bulldog and as you can see she does not play with tennis balls. She plays with basket balls. She will puncture one with just one bite so my boys have to keep thier good ones hidden from her. She does not like anything started up around her, like a riding mower. She punctured the front tire on mine once when I started it up before she was in the house, she is very protective and and acts like she is a lap dog.

RE: The Man Cave

Nope, not kidding. I have been riding dirtbikes, streetbikes, three wheelers and fourwheelers since I was 7 years old, so in 28 years I have never owned a helmet. I know, I have heard all about head trauma and seen it first hand but if the good Lord is ready for me then a helmet is not going to help me. Out of all of the things I have owned in the past this Raptor 700 has got to be the meanest, baddest, scariest of all of them. Especially with the mods I have done to it. As long as it has traction it will try to bring the front up through 5th. My brother weighs a whopping 260lbs and I clocked him at 82mph on it and he said he did not even have it topped out. That was in a new chevy truck with an accurate speedometer on the highway.

Now I am jealous. I need to hurry and build my 30 x 50 shop. I had a 30 x 40 at the home we owned before we sold it and bought our current home and it seemed a little cramped after awhile. I have a new IR 80 gallon compressor, blasting cabinet and an ungodly amount of air and body tools, welding machine, cutting torch and bunch of other stuff that are in storage because they will not fit in my shed :( I even sold my 31 model a sedan I was hotrodding when we moved because I did not have a place to keep it. That was the only time I felt bad about making $18,000.00. I would love to have another Springer Softail, but that is last on my list.

Tough guys live in North Dakota. ;)
But the smart ones find a more agreeable climate to live and work and play in!:D I can say that because I grew up in Northeastern Indiana and spent 4 winters in Minot (Mind-rot), ND, while in the AF. I've lived North, South, East, and West in this great country, and I now live in Mobile, AL, and LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure what you guys are doing about a work bench , picked up these to cabinets for free and bought the solid core door from HomeDepot for $1.00 . Just thought I`d share it . lot of room to work on.

How did you find the cabinets for free? By the way, what kind of bike is the red one in your first set of pics? I have been looking for a bike for quite awhile now. I want an older (not too old) Honda Shadow, but anything that size would be nice.

My wife works in the trades and they had some slight damage on them.
The engine is a Suzuki 650 1981 , the frame is part Suzuki ands odds and ends out of the bone pile . started out as a Hardtail , but quickly changed it to a swing arm. Fatbob tanks off an old harley . It turns a lot of heads, and get many , { what tha heck is that comments} Heres afew more pics
The flame job , I used all House of Kolor candys on it and the paint looks about a foot deep and has taken Best of Show and Best of Paint a few times. Had about $500.00 in paint materials and maybe 500.00 other in parts. So you dont have to spend an arm and leg to ride .
Hows the Man cave coming , Snow slow you down ? looks like you`ve been getting hit as hard as we have.

I started riding when I was only seven also. Most of my riding has been off road in the desert areas of southern califonia, blasting down dry riverbeds, sand dunes, rocky hills, etc. I have had some pretty spectacular crashes over the years and balled up my bikes good a few times.

This was my favorite riding area: http://www.toyhaulermagazine.com/ocotillo.html

I ALWAYS ride wearing full gear, maybe that is why I am still alive:D

If you aint crashing once in a while, your'e not doing it right! Go big or go home!

not only the weather, but with semester finals this week, i have been swamped with homework. Dad is swamped at work also, so we have the weekends to work on it. Its slow going. I will be sure to post pics when more is completed. What type of bike would you recommend for a first bike? I am 6' 3, almost 6' 4...i dont know if that matters, but yea. Budget in mind also.

well, you an inch taller than I am . When I ride the custom Suzuki , I look like Grape Ape on a BMX bicycle and it beats me to death. My Nomad would fit you very well but it depends on how and what style, you want to ride . Go to a few cycle shops and sit on a few , see which one feels right to you.
thems some nice toyz lill will, love to have that Suzuki , I bet it`s got tthe 200+ mph chip in it. I have a 64 Vespa I`ll trade ya for it lol.

RE: The Man Cave

flaminheli: my dog thinks he's a lap dog as well. Boy does it hurt for him to crawl up on me just thinking that he's little. Oh that kills me! My dog's insane as well. He can bite a tennis ball flat first try. He's saved my life more than once. In his younger days he took down a prize bull that was charging our truck. Boy was I glad he came out on top that time, unfortunately he broke the bulls hips and the bull had to be put down. I'll have to upload a pic of my dog and man-cave. He's not allowed inside, but he stays as close as he can to me. He'll sit in the garage or just outside of the nearest window. He's really crazy!

About your Raptor 700, I've got to say that Raptors and Banshees are QUICK. Back in my Motocross days, I got well acquainted with the national quad champ of Honduras (I lived in El Salvador at the time). He had a couple different Raptors (250, 350, 660, and 700 I believe). The Raptor 700 was rediculous at bottom-end and top-end...but I've gotta say I loved slinging the 350 around the track. It was nimble enough to keep it hammered through the tight corners, and light enough to shift my weight and keep it stable. It also jumped better than the 700. I felt like with the 700 I had to slow down too early into corners to keep up momentum. I also couldn't throw my weight enough to keep the wheels down. It was SOO much fun to slip the clutch, yam the throttle and disappear behind a HUGE cloud of dirt! There was one high-bermed corner that had WAY too much dirt higher up the berm (it was ridiculously soft and sandy) that I loved to drift around. I'd have this incredibly huge plume of dirt behind me. Boy how I miss that sport!

Regardless man, WEAR A HELMET!! It saved my life more than once!

Are you going to run 2x6's on the top, flat on top of the 2x4's? If you are building a lofted roof (barn style) then that is the best way to do it. It will give you a couple of inches of overhang on the sidwalls. A little advise, make sure you place the wall studs 16" on center. I have seen so many people place the wall studs 2' on center which causes the siding to be wavy because it does not have the support it needs. It will make for alot sturdier structure. What kind of siding are you going to use, T-111?

This is what I am talking about on the 2x6's.

Well, judging from everyone's Mancaves and Playtoys, it doesn't look like the down spiraling economy has effected any of us :D

Shouter 01-12-2009 09:03 AM

RE: The Man Cave

Thats whats good about north dakota! Ha the economy hasnt seemed to affect anyone here...due to budget surplus maybe? T1-11 is the siding were using. So 2' studs are too far apart according to you?? what happens when we already have the 2' stud walls already up?

flaminheli 01-12-2009 07:46 PM

RE: The Man Cave

I noticed that in the pic that is why I said something. You could place three 2 x 4's running horizontal between every stud. One toward the top one in the middle and one toward the floor. It will help support the T-111. If your studs are 2' on center then these braces should be about 22 1/2" long to fit inbetween the studs but measure twice and cut once. Another thing that will help is make sure you buy the 5/8" T-111. It is more rigid than 1/4 or 1/2". You said you are going to have 8' walls. Remimber that T-111 is only 8' long so you might have problems getting it to come down far enough to overlap the outside perimiter of the floor.

Mr. Mugen 01-12-2009 08:50 PM

RE: The Man Cave

Just put your sheets on so it covers the floor and use your soffit to cover the 1 1/2 inch's at the top. Or add a small strip if it makes you feel better.....but do it on top....can hide it that way. Nice work so far man. 2 foot centers is fine. If there is no 2nd story then no need to be that beefy. Make sure to double up the top sill is all. If your putting the trusses on 24C as well they will line up with your wall studs and put direct load on the studs.

I build houses, garages, sheds and ice fishing shanty's......but no man caves just yet. Will be building something similar at camp.

Keep up the good work,
Kevin

Alright thanks flaminheli, i think i will put the horizontal 2x4s in. There will be no progress until this weekend once again, work, and school. Any more tips/pointers will be appreciated. Also keep the mancave toys coming while i wait for the weekend. :)

North Dakota Kid, any progress on the Man Cave? I spent the better part of the weekend cleaning mine and putting a few planes I don't fly that much or are not finished yet in the loft. Some times you don't realize how cluttered the place is until you start cleaning it up.
