I have one of these waiting to be picked up at the LHS, but now I am confused (doesn't take much) do I leave the wing incidence stock or change it ? What's the consensus ?
Thanks ................ |

I left mine where it came from the factory and it was fine.

SW wing
I also left mine same as factory setting. Flies fine for me. Wish
Great Planes had included some decals, at least "N" numbers and logo. |

 Joss Stick! Quit teasing me with that beautiful plane! The few things you did really gave it some pizzaz! Good Job.
(Should) I decide on getting the SW, I am beginning to think I'll just try it out first at factory incidence. The mod that Chinook Pilot suggested, lowering the wing mounting holes and sealing the wing/fuse contact area, could certainly be done at anytime. Well, going flying tomorrow and mull this whole thing over. .....You guys sure don't make it easy ;) (it flew wonderfully in my dreams last night by the way!) LOL -dave- |

Thanks! It flies better than in your dreams. You won't be sorry!!
One other thing I forgot, I put a small Klett Tailwheel on it. Here's another look. |

Hi guys,
I did a litle pin striping and I added non functional guide wires from the fin to the horizontal stab. I got the idea from MAN. I'm thinking of some sort of graphic decal for the cowl. My 2nd favorite in my fleet is my World Models Clipped Wing Cub. Jeff No plane, no gain |

Darn, Joss Stick.... You just HAD to throw in another great photo, didn't you? LOL If you were here now, this is what you'd see: http://home.internetcds.com/~barbados/curley.JPG RCFlyernyc...I guess if the 2nd favorite plane in your hanger is a Clipped wing cub, the SW is your first, yes? Well, I copied the want list and brought it home, so we'll see if I still want to spend nine bills after I fly my puny little trainer tomorrow.... Again, where are the guys that HATE this plane??? Help me temper my decision! LOL ;) ;) -dave- |
I guess the SW is your favorite
You are correct Sir!

Has anyone beefed up the wing hold down recepticles?

I have really put mine thru the paces with a YS91 and the wing holddowns seem fine. They have never loosened at all. Mine is a year or so old now.

Bad review
I have had one since x-mas 2000. Built as per instructions with two elevator servos, and 4-40 rod to the halves. Quite a scene as I wrestled the fuse with two twelve inch drill extensions on the flexible attacment with my wife pulling the trigger as I drilled pilot holes for the rods through each former. Scince my plane showed up at the field four more club members have bought one. Mine has a .91FX 2 stroke on it with a bisson muffler, and it has taught me throttle management and that with enough power you can get this bird anything :stupid: Well My wing blocks could maybe use some reinforcement And I was thinking of putting a true red covered birch plate on the outside for it. My pilot always gets great reviews a stuffed Rocky (Rocky and Bullwinkle). I need a "flying" squirrel as a pilot :D Plane really is a joy to fly, but is no fun in the wind. With winds 15mph + it is hard to get on the ground, and I find that that big wing gets pushed around. On high rates at slow speed on a slight down angle you can get this plane to do loops in about 1.5 fuse lengths. Rolls are not to axial. Knife edge is pretty good. Stall turns tumbles spins etc. are my favorites with this one. Inverted flight is very easy if you can already fly a 4ch trainer inverted. Well wish I could have swayed you...

Thanks, PJC for the honest  review!
I agree, mods on ARF's are a royal pain, especially what you did. I'm just finishing up a US40 and it would have been done two weeks ago if I had not modified it, but the piece of mind is comforting, yes? Well, your review actually pushed me a little further to buying it. Saw a similar plane yesterday at the field and it handled well in a 10-15MPH wind at the controls of an experienced pilot. Me....well ??? I'm still out on a limb on this... http://home.internetcds.com/~barbados/greenmonkey.JPG But I'm getting closer thanks to all you kind folks willing to share your experience and opinions with me. Again, thanks to all. :) :) :) -dave- |

Well, you guys forced me into it! LOL http://home.internetcds.com/~barbados/3stooges.JPG I just orded the SW and a YS91 and the servos/batts/incidence meter/deflection meter/harnesses...and on and on and on.... You know one item begits another, yes? So, the YS is on back order at Tower, but maybe I can get the plane finished before it arrives. You'll be hearing from me, I'm sure as I'm putting it together! Thanks again to all to help me make this decision.... ....Maybe we all can have a Spacewalker fly-in somewhere in the middle of the country and compare notes! LOL Best Regards to all. :) :) -dave- |

Central Hobbies has the YS91 in stock for $45 less than Tower's price.....

Thanks for the heads-up, KatManDEW....
But I can't seem to cancel it! http://home.internetcds.com/~barbados/gleason.JPG I thought all this stuff was (almost) fair-traded! NUTS!!! If it hasn't shipped by Monday, I'll call Tower and cancel..... Gosh...could have got a few more props and a servo with $US45.... Oh, well...thanks anyway...your kindness is appreciated! :) :) :) -dave- |

I had this plane in my mind for a while and after reading all the comments, I am bought. I am going to order spacewalker from towerhobbies and YS91FZ engine from centralhobbies.
I own a Futaba 6YG and thinking about getting a new Futaba receiver ($60 from servocity) and Hitec servos (~$25 each). Hitec servos may be either HS-700BB or HS-605BB(smaller). Can you guys comment on the servos you are using? You know, if there are any issues installing the servos (size, torque, fit, etc...). Thanks. air-turk |
