seagull extra

Hi guys, I,m busy putting together A seagull extra 260, 70 ins span. Although the quality is very good and things do fit o.k. I,M a bit concerned about the trailing edge of the wing. There is only 6 mm of wood to fit the wing hinges in, I would have thought they might have put a block of wood to beef it up a bit. Any way I went for a pinned type of hinge and used epoxy to stick them in . Do you think this will be plenty strong enough.?. Thanks in advance. Bill.

Pictures would help us understand exactly what you mean. If you are refering to 6mm tall and running the entire length of the wing or 6mm deep into the wing or a little 6mm block at intervals along the trailing edge. either way, if you can install your hinges without forcably splitting the wood you will likely be okay. However, pictures would help a lot.

RE: seagull extra

Why not just use the CA type hinges that came with the kit?. I have this plane with a 40CC gasser and have not had any issues what so ever with the supplied CA hinges. Putting pinned hinges into a wing with no hard points designed for this may be worse than what you thought the CA hinges were.
