I use a Saito 100 Fourstroke on mine. That is what is recommended and has lots of excess power. It will climb out of site if you let it. There are lots of threads on this plane for engine choice and mods to make it better, just do a search for Ultra Stick 60 or US 60 here on RCU.

I use a Super Tigre G90 swinging a 14x6 prop and have no problem going vertical until its out of sight. Its a great running engine and for the price you can't beat it.

Hideho,

This forum has at least 1/2 dozen terrific threads on every Ultra Stick/engine combination.
Please do a search, (above) in this forum only and you'll find every answer to any question you may have and a few that you haven't thought of.

Are you dissing that purring ***** cat?

Unlike a lot of other 4-strokes out there, this engine has never bit me and consistently fires in the right direction. I don't even bother to prime -- just apply the 12-volt Tower Hobby starter to the Higley prop nut and wait until I hear a slightly different sound, she be purring. She only roars when I slam the throttle full forward after she is in the air. I don't think I ever had to execute a takeoff roll greater than 1/2 throttle with this combination.

Yes, I agree. Its a great engine. Mine has broke one starter cone (hyd-lock), and trimmed my coat sleave twice. I normaly don't use a stater on it, but it sound from your experance to just use the starter. No prime, just turn, and go!

Take offs are outstanding as you noted, I swear it will take of in less that 10 feet, just amazing with that Saito on there.

That plane sure glides nice too. Last Sunday my son took her way up, and killed the engine. Just to see how long she could glide. He got well over 3 minites of glide time till landing. :D :D

I started out with the recommended 14x8 and eventually moved up to an APC 15x6. I might go back to the 14x8 to pick up a little speed -- I have pinned my hinges and sealed all of my control surfaces.

im using a ys91fz on mine with a 15-8 prop. more than enough power, and will go out of site. the only problem with the 91ys is that it is on the heavy side and i had to add some weight to the tail.
