Seagull Extra Or Graupner Extra
 

I've got an SC 61 2 stroke that needs a home.

I've decided I want an Extra 300s and have researched in the forum's for advice. I've found loads on the Graupner (reinforce tail etc ) but cannot find anything on the 46 - 53 size Seagull extra.

Has anybody got any experience with Seagull extra, if so how does it fly/build and would a 61 a) pull it around well? b) Fit.

I'm thinking that the SC 61 would be marginal in the Graupner as most people are using them with 91's at the business end and I do want something that has power in reserve just in case.

Someone told me that the Graupner Extra is the same one as the seagull......just another covering scheme.

They are different sizes. The Graupner is for a 60/90 the seagull a 46-53. Seagull has a smaller wing span also.

Don't want to do extreme 3D stuff, just general sport flying. I'm thinking the Graupner will be a bit more relaxed than the overpowered seagull.

yep we have a seagull extra we run it with a 91fs and it flies well but it's not a 3d and seagull now makes many planes for graupner like the edge 540 and soon a new range of extra's.

Is it down to personal preference then, how it looks etc?

As it is at the moment I'm leaning towards the Graupner purely as I prefer the look.

What could I expect realisticly the Graupner to do with that size engine. Would I have reasonable vertical?

At least a 90

Mine has a Magnum GP 65 on it, and it wont go vertical.
But then agian.. my Magnum engine problably isn`t the strongest engine in the 60 class . My buddy ha an OS 90 fx in his, and I can se that it handles much better. But his needle valve is leaking, so he`s not to happy with that engine at the moment.

ok if vertical is out of the question with a sc 61 it's back to the seagull extra as in

46 - 53 so a 61 should be respectable, but has anyone flown this size extra? Adrian is this the one you fly with a 91?

I fly this with an OS61 and it is great! Strong vertical, quick snaps, wonerful slow rolls. Very happy with kit, value, looks and everything else. Best buy of all the extras in this size.

What size prop are you using with the 61? I am planning on using a 61sf with an apc 12X6 or 13X5 if it will turn it well enough. Thanks for the info.

I run an APC 12x6 and h ave also used a 13x6 which is just a little slower. Happy flying!

Change of plan. As there is a lack of Graupner's in the UK at the mo and I cannot wait 3 weeks for the extra, I've opted for the Seagull Edge 540.

Recieved it last night and was impresssed with the quality of the kit. Have built the wing, installed the engine, tank and undercart and I am hoping to fly it by the weekend. I am thinking of fully cowling the engine with a remote glow.

I know the SC61 will not give it out of this world performance but it will do until my SC91 arrives.

I have looked at the wing joiner and it does not fit snug. It can be moved in all directions. I this normal for the Graupner or should I try and make a new one? ON all of my other arfs it has been a snug fit. Just wondering if you all had this problem and do you think that the epoxy will fill in the gap or if I should make a new one.

mine was like this too.

I just poured lots of glue into mine.

usemlots of 30 min epoxy mixed with micro-baloons. Works great.

I was at my local hobby shop some time ago and he had the little seagull extra and the graupner we took the fuzses and put them beside eatchother and they were exactly the same exept for the covering.
