Plane for MDS 1.48
I have a MDS 1.48 that I originally bought for a H9 Taylorcraft, but I ended up using a G26 in that. This engine has been wanting a home for a couple of years now. I'm not looking for a 3D plane. It could be a scale, sport, or warbird ARF. Suggestions?

RE: Plane for MDS 1.48
Sailpret,
I offer the following in the spirit of helpfullness, not criticism, so bear with me: A local flyer who used MDS engines nicknamed them "Mostly Dead Sticks" because of the MANY problems encountered with carb problems. Replace the carb or bench run it and keep an eye out for issues such as erratic needle settings, etc. I had similar problems with an engine called an "Aviastar" and finally made it a good engine with a carb off another engine design (Irvine 150, I think.) So, before you buy an airplane for that engine, run the engine on a bench, alot, beforehand. Learn its' character first. Given in the spirit of brotherhood....... |
RE: Plane for MDS 1.48
Thanks Lifer, I understand your concern. This engine does have the later C2 carb. I have run it briefly and it seemed to do ok, but I have not spent the time to really get to know it, as it has been sitting on the shelf for awhile. If I could put it in an inexpensive ARF that I didn't have a lot of time or money invested in I think I could take a chance with it. I will seriously run the thing before I choose to use it though.

RE: Plane for MDS 1.48
Inexpensive ARF? www.nitroplanes.com I have 3 of their planes. Not had any problems from them. As with any ARF, always go over ALL glue joints. The instructions usually are not much help, although, my last plane from them had fairly decent instructions. There are many others out there, that's the first that comes to mind. Good Luck !!
