Top Flite Cessna 182 ARF

Has anyone seen pricing info on the new Top Flite 182 ARF? I seen a full page ad for it in Model Aviation, page 94 April 2009.

Wow - sounds interesting. Looks like they might be offering some of their kits in ARF form moving forward. I am at work and my magazine is home[:o]. Can you tell us anything else about it. Does the ad give any size/weight info?

It is the 81 inch wingspan, will come with the Interior installed. Lighting system also already installed. Looks like newer style wheel pants. Maybe the original Cowl.

With all of the Skylanes that are floating around out their, I wish they would have done the Cardinal, or maybe the Cessna 170 B.

Nothing at Tower or on the TF website yet. Tower is listing parts for a new TF 60 sized P-47 ARF, but nothing elsewhere. Wonder when these are due out. I am glad to see the nav lights on the 182. Any info in the ad on construction such as a FG fuse?

It's ABOUT TIME!!!!:D

I have wanted to have that plane on floats for over ten years now. I never had the time or intrest in a long term build up of the kit, so i figured it would be one of my dream planes that would never happen.

Now it looks like it WILL be a reality after all[sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif]

The April 2009 Edition of Model Aviation does list the
Top Flite Cessna 182 Arf on page 94.
The fine print at the bottom says to go to

www.top-flite.com/85A

when you do that it states:

"Looking for the Top Flite Cessna 182 ARF? We're sorry, but information is currently unavailable on our website. After our magazine ads went to print, we encountered a minor production delay with the plane.

Please check back at the end of April or early May. Thank you." :(

So, question answered! LOL

Can someone explain to me why it is a good idea to put out another Cessna 182? Hangar 9 makes one, CMP makes a similar size one, then there's the multiple 40/60 size planes. I agree with the previous person, who asked for something different! There's a lot of really great General Aviation designs, how about a Cherokee, Luscombe, Musketeer, erocoupe, the list go on.....

Here's a link to an old thread that I started several years ago! It's a poll for General Aviation ARF's

How about a Piper Comanche, Piper Tri Pacer. SCALE Cessna 172 Skyhawk. It is back in current production.

1) 49" Cessna 182 electric power

2) 65" Cessna 182 electric power

3) 81" Cessna 182 Top Flite Arf, Saito 20 Gas

4) 120" Cessna 182 ARF 100cc DA

The June issue of Fly R/C has a better picture of this plane. It's just inside the cover on the first page. Looks nice. I have a NIB GP 182 that is going on the selling block this weekend at a local swap meet so I can make room in the budget for this new one!:D

Does anyone know if it has a fiberglass fuse? There is no mention of what its constructed from in the ad in the June issue of Fly-RC. I can't tell from looking at the photo.

It will be a nice airplane but I have to agree...what's so great about the 182? It isnt even the most popular Cessna in fullscale aviation. That would be the 172. I think top flight is just being lazy not wanting to engineer a new design such as a Cherokee, Luscombe, Musketeer, or Ercoupe. Making ARFs out of exisiting kits seems mundane to me.

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 ARF

If they would just do a scale Piper Cherokee with fixed gear with the pants, and really take their time and get the outline and other lines on it just right, and build it with the tapered wing, then I think they would have a mega hit. I don't think I have ever seen a true scale good looking Cherokee. I'm not takling about the GP Cherokee either, it does not even come close. Their Arrow kit is OK, but to me theirs something about it thats just not right. I don't know what it is, but I have been trying to figure it out since they first came out.

It's an Arrow, Not just a Cherokee. I prefer the Hershey Bar wing, my self.
30 years ago a company called VERON, had a scale Cherokee 180 it was nice and very scale. Anyone remember the DuBro cherokee with the blow molded fuse?

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 ARF

Doom, I hear you. Although its a Arrow, they are all derivatives from the first Cherokee STC. Piper was smart in what they did. Saved them millions in the long run. MRC had a Cherokee from way back in the seventies. They did seem to capture the Cherokee look even though it had some major deviations.

For those interested, it is up on the Top Flite site: http://www.top-flite.com/airplanes/topa0906.html

I wish they would have done the bonanza instead. Actually, a Giant P-47 or Corsair would have been much better.

Looks nice on the TF website - I like the corrugated control surfaces and lighting system. I hope the price is reasonable. It is not showing up on the Tower website yet.
