Almost lost my knife on its maiden flight. Seems the pull-pull cables are too tight in the tubes, so the elevator kept sticking. Add a rearward CG into that equation and all hell broke loose :)

Has anyone else had cable or elevator problems with this plane ?

Hi Crash, I just finished my ARF Knife. I haven't had time to fly it yet, weather and home projects are in the way. Later this week should be good for the first flight! I did'nt use the pull - pull cables on my Knife (on elevator) for the same reasons you found. They did'nt seem free enough for me. I put a Sullivan push rod set up on it and it works great. I have about 1.5 inches of up elevator on high rates. I just sewed the push rod outer tube to the side of the fuse with regular thread. I used a heavy needle and punched through the fuse sides and went around the tube about ten times, in three equal spaced areas. Then I hit the stiches with thin CA. It won't flex or go anywhere! Use the dubro 2/56 pull-pull kit. This wire is thinner than what comes in the kit. Pull-pull allows for extreme throw that is needed for some of the more advanced 3D moves. It is difficult to achieve 50+ degree throws with pushrods on these planes and maintain any kind of mechanical advantage.

My su-do-khoi was the same way. I used push rods also. While not as good as pull pull it worked well and I had 45-50 degrees of throw no problem. Never experienced flutter or had any problems what so ever. I used plastic lading gear clamps to hold rod to the side of the fuse. The only problem I had with this setup is when my buddy flew through it. That was kindy of a problem. :)

Good news. I replaced the pull-pull with DuBro 256 cable and added three chunks of lead to the front. Vast improvement. Put 6 flights on it yesterday :)

Side Note: When I pulled out the pre-installed cables, one of them had a double kink in it. This almost certainly added to the centering problem I was having with the elevator. I suggest anyone getting one checks the cables for free and easy sliding before using them.
