Man how I loved and lusted after these planes when I was a teen. The marketing photos just cut through me like a hot knife through butter. The thought of having such a beautiful plane and not having to spend months building in or the skill it would take to do so was SO apealing to me. I finally aquired a Dago red when I was about 17 and I only got a few flights on it before a dead rxr batt. did it in. I was crushed. It was the best flying plane I had ever flown at the time. I was able to buy another Dago from a friend in 1998 and I still have it. It is not perfect but one of these days it will get in the air. I also had a Reno 250L which I absolutely LOVED until an FM hit took it out. I don't know why these kits flew so well, but they really did.

Does anyone have a spinner for the Dago or know of a replacement?

Also, if anyone wants to sell a RENO 250, F-16, T-38, Barracuda, or pretty much any of the kits PLEASE let me know :)

I think I have a spinner for the Dago; kept it after mine was wrecked. I'll try to take some pics in the next day or two and post them.

I just bought a pristine 1988 Dago Red. It comes with the original 1983 markings of the real airplane, no "kelp" on the sides, and a chrome plated plastic spinner. No retracts in this box though I think a set of MK's would do well along with a scale positioned retractable tailwheel.
I'm going to put an OS 61 SF in it and try to hide the muffler in the cowling.

I've been looking for one of these models for a couple of years and now I'm so excited to have finally gotten one. The best thing about it will be that it's flown on 2.4 and can't be shot down very easily!

Stuntflyer, I have the retracts from my Dago Red. Kept em in case I could use them in something else, but let me know if you're interested. Johnnyspeed, here are the pics of my Dago spinner. As Stuntflyer said, it is chromed plastic, approx 3 3/8" diameter. There are some scratches, but no cracks. Looks to be in decent shape.

*sorry for the giant picsdon't know what happened there...

I just received an EZ Reno 250L that I bought off a guy on RCG. I overpaid for it, but I wanted another so bad. That's the bad news... the good news is I am waiting on delivery of a Dago that is NIB that I picked up for $250 shipped :) That's the good news. The new Dago is different from the kit I have. It has turned up wingtips. What are the differences between the 80's kit and the one that MRC sold in the early 2000's?

Darn........I had several EZ ARF's back in the 80's & the only one that I have left is the "Commander 40" that I am currectly flying once in a while. It has a "JETT 50" on the nose & no lack of power! I also have a extra used & repaired wing for it. I lost the first Commander 40 on take off due to a corroded ail connection but saved the wing.

Ooooops.........I just lied.....I do have a "Box Fly 20" that I have a Enya 46 four stroke on the nose. That one isn't in the best shape but still flies great.

They are all Pilot and Vpro kits, no EZ's. From what I have been told, OK Models stopped production on the EZ line a while ago and have no plans to mfg anymore. Can't say I blame them with all the cheap Chinese arf's taking over the market. I still prefer quality though.

I just received my Dago. This is the 2nd version produced in 2001. They mount the aileron servos with double sided tape and a plastic cover that gets Ca'd over the servo. That seems a little weak to me. How does it hold up? Is there a mod that is better? Looking for advice before I start assembly. Thanks.

Union Models 05-09-2010 01:27 PM

RE: E Z Arf Models

Jonny,

For my P51 (new version) I just roughed up one side of the aileron servo with sandpaper, cleaned it up with lighter fluid to degrease it. I didnt bother with the plastic card that is glued to the wing rib, I just epoxied the servo to the balsa wing rib. Then when dry, I added the plastic card servo cover with thin CA.
My P51 is 3 years old and it's never caused me problems.

I once had the Commander 40 and a Decathlon. They were both great airplanes. I had a OS max 40 in both. I loved doing touch and goes with the Decathlon. Wish I had one now.

Ah! Touch and goes....nice

When I was a kid I had the EZ Supra-Fly 25 and the low wing (red) EZ Reno Racer. As an adult I got ahold of the Supra-Fly 45 and flown the yellow mid-wing (yellow) Reno racer.

I love the EZ stuff but could not generally afford it way back when-

I have about 15 different EZ planes in my fleet and the ones I can remember off hand are, 2 P-51, Dego Red, Decathlon, Lazer, Pitts Special, Christan Eagle, 4 Chipmunks .25, 2-.40, and a 1.20, FW 190, F-16, and Reno racer. I think they are fine flying planes, but I see no particular need to keep them in the box, the value is in flying them.
