Plane arrived perfect
Well, so far my first experience with Nitro Planes has been a positive one. Except for having to jump through hoops to prove my identity for security measures, (ok with me though) My new Extra 330L 63" arrived on time, and the right color, nothing broken. I have to say, the construction of this plane seems to be exceptional, especially for a $125.00 price tag. The instructions leave a lot to be desired though.
I will leave a review as soon as I finish putting it together and fly it. Thanks Nitro Planes (so far), excellent job. |

What is up with Security Measures?

RE: Plane arrived perfect
Well, I guess it's because I ordered from NP for the first time, I had to send photo copies of my CC and Drivers license to prove I am the cardholder. I understand, no big deal. Hopefully I won't have to go through that again now that i've orderd from them.

RE: Plane arrived perfect
if some company asked me for them i would very swiftly move on to another company. proving identity is one thing..getting life history is another :)

RE: Plane arrived perfect
That is to much info. I also would move on. I have never been asked for that info on line before. Only at a Store.

RE: Plane arrived perfect
Ok, now someone has your CC number, DL, and a photo of you on file. Why? All they need is the 3 digit number on the back of the card, and billing zip. Nothing more! This seems a bit fishy.

RE: Plane arrived perfect
I have ordered from Nitro Planes also (might have the same plane, but not sure if mine is 63". Its supposed to be a .40 size, but I run an OS .61fx in it due to weight). I was never asked to prove my identity. I ordered online, entered my CC info, and presto bango, it arrived about a week later. I too would be VERY concerned about having to provide this information. I would certainly keep a very close eye on my CC acct. Did you have to send a photo copy via ground mail, or a scanned version to an e-mail address?

RE: Plane arrived perfect
hi all,
awhile back there was a question about this topic in the nitroplanes forum and john from nitro explained why they needed it. i found the link to that post here= http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_82...tm.htm#8201383 maybe it will help to explain why they need it. it seems if you order using a card with a different adress than where the item is being shipped to or use an international CC it will also raise a flag so at that point they ask for the info. check the link. bassman |
RE: Plane arrived perfect
Well that is good. Now that that has been cleared up, post some pics of the plane.:D

RE: Plane arrived perfect
That is what happened to me. I was having something shipped to a differant address than what the billing address was. They wanted a copy of the cc and id faxed to them. After a few attempts of them communicating in the office they shipped the plane. It arrived within a week and was in perfect shape, except for the landing gear holes drilled in the wrong spot for the axles.

ORIGINAL: speedy72vega The instructions leave a lot to be desired though. I will leave a review as soon as I finish putting it together and fly it. Thanks Nitro Planes (so far), excellent job. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_5299445/tm.htm I have one fitted with a 120FS and its a great flyer. The instructions are poor - but read the above thread first - it gives some great tips. Good luck with your build. |
RE: Plane arrived perfect
Yes, I had it drop shipped to my work instead of billing address, that's why. Also, They said to black out all but the last 4 digits of the card #, so that's what i did. I wouldn't have sent the whole card #.
Bonebreak, Mine is the .90 size, with the red/black and white checkered design. I am converting it to electric power though, will run a 50-65 outrunner, 22.2v at 40-45 amps, should be close to 1000 watts. |
RE: Plane arrived perfect
These folks are running a business and have to protect themselves so I understand why they would ask for additional information when shipping to a different address than the CC billing address. With that said, I too would be very hesitant to send anyone a copy of my DL with my credit card. If anything, I would just use Paypal - if they accept it that is...
Some time ago I placed a relatively large order through Horizon Hobby and put the shipping address as my work address as I do with many online purchases. Within a day or two I received an email saying that my order had a problem and couldn't ship. When I called them, they asked me to contact my CC company and put my work address on file with them as an authorized ship-to address. I understood the precaution, but I wasn't in the mood to go through the credit card company's talking menu system so I cancelled the order and placed it with another reputable online company who promptly obliged and shipped my order ;) |
RE: Plane arrived perfect
Well, I have to say, the extra steps didn't bother me near as much as if someone else was buying the plane with my CC # and I was trying to stop payment. It is a good thing that the store is taking steps to protect themselves as well as the consumer, and making sure as best as they possibly can that it's not a stolen card.
I'm just not good at being patient, and that was 2 more days I could have been building the plane!!!! :D |
