Just as a point of interest, my DP weighs 11.6 pounds with a Saito 1.80.
I purchased mine built, but I have noticed a few things. 1. be careful and center drill the hinges. it is hard to get proper penetration without doing that. Actually I would replace them with SIG or some other know quality hinge. I have had two on one elevator half break. And the the rudder and left half elevator hinges actually pulled out. 2. My plane was built basically stock and seems very solid. The big Saito does vibrate and I have found you can save a lot of retightening grief if you locktite all permanent bolts. PS: I have never had a wing strut or cabane come loose and I don't locktite them. 3. those DP clevis and horns look cheap, but I have not had any problem with them at all. 4. I have found the cowl and wheel pants to be very durable compared to some I have had. That's about all I can think of right now. For building tips you will have to go to someone else; but I can tell you that once it is done it will be very durable and sturdy. I've found no weak spots. The plane flies so well it's hard to get in trouble unless you do it on purpose. she lands beautifully also. |

Patrick changed the aileron horns from what was pictured in the assembly manual-i bought some nice button head screws to mount the with (just my personal pref)
I also got some 4-40 pushrods for the ail. hookups, with metal clevis's (again, my preference) Do yourself a favor and get the Patrick tailwheel-fits this plane to a tee and looks cool too.-(I got the chrome one), and while you're at it, get the inst. panel and a good pilot figure (dons hobbies)- this plane deserves all the goodies!! I should have gotten this plane long ago-its my FAVORITE! |

And yes locktite them as well. 3. those DP clevis and horns look cheap I also got some 4-40 push-rods for the ail. hookups, with metal clevis's (again, my preference) Do yourself a favor and get the Patrick tailwheel-fits this plane to a tee and looks cool too.-(I got the chrome one), Did any of you fuel proffing anything ? In side firewall so on? |

Yep, i re-coated the firewall (front) after I got through drilling and mounting my YS 120 SC, also fuelproofed the inside, all around the fueltank and hatch, plus the backside of the firewall.
I also changed the landing gear mount bolts to 6-32, w/nylock nuts and larger flat washers. Just didn't like the supplied ones. I kind of have my "favorite" hardware and pretty much use it on all my planes. Nothing against Mr. Patrick, just one of my quirks:) |

I just used Sig dope (just because I had a BIG can of it left from another project)-clear. The back-side of the firewall looked like it didn't get fuelproofed, so I did it there too.
It works good, but any good fuelproofer will do. |
