The best "does it all" plane?
 

I am one of those guys that does'nt like haveing 50 planes in his hanger, one for every application(pattern, 3-D, scale) etc... I really prefer to have one plane that kind of does it all. I know that no plane can fly pattern as well as a Zen and do 3-D like an Extreme at the same time. But there are some that do a little of everything pretty dard good. I have been out of the hobby for a little while. I sold EVERYTHING and after a few months I realized how much I really enjoyed the hobby and decided to get back in to it. I got a new Hitec radio and am ready to get a plane and engine. I am on a budget and so I would like to get 1 plane that I can enjoy many of the different aspects of flight. I'd like to stick to a .25-.40 size plane and engine and was wondering if you guys have or know of a plane that meets these criteria and seems to be an all around fun "do it all" plane. Specific engine suggestions would be appreciated as well. My last two planes were a .25 size Tequilla Sunrise with a Saito .30 and a Zen 30 with a Norvel AME .25. So I find that I need something that keeps me on my toes a little to keep me intereseted. But at the same time I would prefer something that does'nt have such a high wing loading (like the Tequilla Sunrise) that it tip stalls every time you take a turn at less than 60 miles an hour (I can't afford too many crashes). So any suggestions would be very helpful and let me know your most positive and enjoyable plane experiences. Thanks guys. :)

I love my Somethin extra by sig. Mine is the kit version with a thunder tiger 46 pro and an APC 11X5 prop. great all around flyer.

It's strange for me to think of only having one plane but after thinking about it, it would be my s.e. with a good strong 50 in it. There are probably better planes than the s.e. in the 40 size that would fit the all around catagory but I havn't flown one yet. It would not be a good choice if your into speed but for all around fun flying that would be my choice. It would make you want to step on the next tequilla sunrise you see.

I would have agreed with the SE until today.

Now I could be happy with only the U-Can-Do 0.46!

You're living in a dream world if you think you can survive with only one plane........or.....am I, as I can't stop thinking about and buying the latest and greatest.

You didn't specify a price range. But in the .40 size a Kyosho Majestic 1400 with a Saito .72 is a plane I never tire of flying. It's a pretty good all-around plane.

The Majestic is awesome for its size. But a 3D plane it "aint" ;).

it can fly like a fun fly or like a pattern plane, it tail section is built good for high speeds were other planes like the U-Can- do will flutter a high speed. but if you might enjoy slightly slower speeds then the new U-can-do and the Funtana would be my choice, oh i forgot i have all these planes.

Thanks guys for the info. I sounds like the SE is a definite possibility. And more info on the U-Can-Do 40 would be great! What engine you have in it and stuff like that. And also, how do you guys think the Magic Extra holds up to the SE? Inquiring minds need to know. :D

How about the SYnergy 3D from ZNLine. It does great pattern on low rates and 3D's very well. Mild to wild on the flip of a switch. Weight is between 7-7.5 pounds making it the lightest aircraft in it's class. Knife-edge performance is superior to anything in it's class with on rails handling. Hovering authority, elevators, beautiful walls and parachutes, harrier rolls, spins falt and knife, and knife-edge everything, and then lower the rates for great F3A flying. WIth the YS110, it's outrageous.

my suggestion would be a DavePatrick ultimate 40 size with a ys63 ......pretty fun and flies great. have heard nothing neg. about them myself...

Hey Tinman, That Bipe does look very nice! But the $500 for both the engine and plane is a bit much for me right now. Maybe one day.

Inverticle, to answer your question about how the SE goes up against the Magic Extra.....having flown both (and owning a Magic Extra) I would say the SE is a better "all around" plane..as it can fly faster without flutter, but the Magic Extra has it beat in the 3D area.

Thanks Mike for that description. That helps me see that I would probobly prefer the SE over the Magic Extra because I have always loved a plane that can track nice and smooth at moderate speed.

I thought about the Bipe, and while I have one and love it, the "pain in the ass" factor is pretty high with Bipe assembly. I had forgotten about the Balsa Nova. A great all around plane if you like the looks.

Isn't the price tag ($200) a bit outrageous for the SE? Good grief, you can get a Magic Extra and a hot new magnum 52 for that price.

Yes Ernie....I agree......I like the SE, but for the $80 price difference, I went with the Magic Extra....and I'm happy with my decision, it's suits the purpose I was looking for very well. However, everybody that I know that has an SE ARF doesn't seem to complain about the price! :)

I definitely agree a Sig Somethin' Extra suits your requirement.

Until I flew a Venus 40 with an OS 61FX in it. That model is also amazing, and has the added advantage of being great flying fast as well as slow, and a beautiful knife edge.
