GP Super Skybolt ARF
 

I just want to share my experience with the Skybolt. I asked earlier about power and balance issues. From experience with other bipes, I know you can have a very exciting?? first flight. I ended up moving the battery behind the firewall. My balance is almost an inch BEHIND the recommended starting point. With some planes this would be sudden death. The Skybolt flies absolutly wonderful. It's like it is on rails. It feels like a 4 star 60 with 2 wings. I setup per the instructions on throws, I moved to high rates immediatly. So, everything about this plane is very conservative and easy. (I am not a great pilot) I can highly recommend this to anyone who wants a nice easy to fly bipe. Landings are very easy. So, thanks to all who answered my first questions. You were right on.

I've been flying one of these for three years. A real cadillac! More so that I just put it on floats, but haven't flown it off water yet. Test flights soon! Paul

Its definately a rugged airframe.

Powered mine with a Saito 1.00 M/A 13x8x3

Will do any manuver that I can do;)

And ive even had a couple of dings. But she stayed mostly intact.

Old thread...

I originally had my battery on the firewall and still had the C.G. 1 1/4" behind the recommended point.

Even then I found the plane could have the C.G. further back.

I moved the battery into the fuselage and now have the C.G. a full 2" behind the recommended, and I could still move it further back.

By the way, I've flown this plane several times off the water. It will take off in about 50 feet but looks better skimming across the water before a scale liftoff. Beautiful flying float plane that does great knife edges and hellacious, strange looking inverted flat spins . Real fun!!! Paul

I want to put my Super Skybolt on floats as well.
Please, could you tell me the floats size you used?
Place to purchase?

I have Saito FG-21 on it.
Do you think it is powerfull enought to lift plane from the water?

I got these floats at a swap meet and were told they came from nitroplanes. com. My plane weighs 9 lbs 12 oz and has a OS 70 Surpass. I use a 12x8 prop and it will come off the water as soon as it planes out. Approx 50 ft. Use about 35% aileron-rudder mixing once airborne. Saito FG 21 should do OK.
