GP Big Stik

Hi folks,

I am assembling a Big Stik and have just finished aligning and mounting the wing on to the fuselage. When installed, there is a relatively big gap (1/4") between the leading edge of the wing and the top of fuselage (the front of the wing saddle on the fuse.) I need to fill this gap otherwise oil and other debris will easily get in the fuse.

Any ideas on the best way of filling this gap? If the above description doesn't clearly illustrate what I am talking about I can post a picture later.

Thanks.

Is the gap there when the wing bolts are tight ?

Is the front mounting tab on the wing fitting into
the cut out on the former?

A pic would help,

Bob

I had this same problem too. Does the wing peg fit all the way back into the slot on the fuse's former/bulk head? Initially it will be a tight fit. I had to widen the slot on the former slightly with a drill to get the wing peg to fit all the way into it. Just make sure you reinforce both the peg and the slot in the former with some epoxy.

Gents,

Yes, the front mount tab fits very snuggly in the cut in the former. I had to widen it a little bit, but if fits perfectly fine. The trailing edge of the wing fits perfectly against the back of the wing saddle. In other words, when the wing is mounted solidly and properly on the fuse, the trailing edge of it is flush with the fuse, but the leading edge has a gap between the front of the saddle. In essence, either the wing saddle is 1/4" too long, or the center of the wing is 1/4" too small.

I'll try to post a picture later today.

I have wing saddle foam on mine. I also
put a small piece across the front of the fuse
where the gap is.

Wing saddle foam would be a quick fix and is actually a pretty good idea. Is that the same stuff sold in hardware stores to close gaps in doors and windows?

It's not the same type of foam but
I use it. It is cheaper and you get
enough to replace when necessary.

Here are some pics of what I did
to beef up the wing tab.
