GP Extra 300sp or Eagle 580 40 size?
I want to move up to a plane like these from my pulse and Dazzler, I have an os 55ax for power. I have a friend with the older paint splash scheme 580, I dont need 3d just sport, Does anyone think the Eagle will not fly sport with the 55? I would really like to get the Eagle...any thoughts?

I have both the Extra and Cap-580. Both are built extremely well and are great flyers. They can be excellent sport or basic 3D airplanes. Personally, I like the extra better. It just seems a little more stable, more precise and slightly more relaxing to fly than the Cap. That's just my opinion of course. You might like the Cap better. Either way, you can't really go wrong.

Like Chuck said, an Extra is generally a better sport plane than a Cap

Yep. The Cap is very maneuverable but you have to be on top of it. The analogy I use is that flying it is sometimes like walking on slick ice; you can get in trouble in a hurry. The Extra just feels "locked" and stable.

but the 55 should be fine to power either one?....And Thanks for the help, I kinda get scared reading the reviews, I never could understand how so many people can love or hate the exact same model, some say its there best flier and some say its garbage, I will just have to go with what i like best if the engine is capable for either

The .55 will be outstanding in either plane.

RE: GP Extra 300sp or Eagle 580 40 size?
Just received my GP 300s. I've read the forums, and it has been said that the .55ax will deliver outstanding performance? I am looking for 3-D and sport flying power. I have a .55ax, and one brand new in the box. Great engine, as with any O.S. that I own. My own opinion of course. Anyway I also have a newer .70 FS. The box/instructions say for a .46 to .81 . It also says the plane to weigh in at a heavy side of 6lbs. or @. I "HAD" an old 300s from GP in the red and white scheme. My first nitro arf actually. And it was a great plane to me. But as with many others in the sport, I'm progressing in skill and want to push the envelope. I would really like to have the power to do 3-D. Well hope someone can give me some ideas. Thanks for reading. Blue Skies...........Vince .

If you want 3D, the .55-AX will be a good choice. Maybe try a 13x4 prop? You'll love the airplane.

RE: GP Extra 300sp or Eagle 580 40 size?
Is the 55 AX similar to my OS61SF ABC 2cy engine? If so, perhaps the GP Extra 300SP would be a good 3D airplane for me to start with! Thoughts? Dave</p> |
RE: GP Extra 300sp or Eagle 580 40 size?
The .55 is somewhere in between a strong .46 engine and a strong .60 but it fits in the same space and weighs just slightly more than a .46.

I ended up getting the GP eagle 580, I have the 55ax installed but have yet to fly it, I have been reasured by GP this will be enough engine for everyday sport flying, When I want more power I wil probablly go with the 4 stroke, A few more nice weekends and the field will be ready!!

I have sice removed the pilot who weighs 3oz's, and had to ad an oz of weight to the firewall, I still have not weighed the plane though

RE: GP Extra 300sp or Eagle 580 40 size?
I need to keep reading posts, I know alot of people like to over power things, I am not ready yet for 3D, I just wanted a nice sport plane, But I keep reading and get it in my head it will be severely under powered, without flying it...LOL I am sure it will be all that I can handle...this is my first brand new arf, I have a Pulse and Dazzler that were second hand...altho both required fixing before I could fly them....I don't mind telling you I am terified to fly the Cap for the first time and am thinkin of buddy boxin it LOL.I get a good pucker factor just thinkin of it!

I've been thinking about this same airplane since the first time I saw it. I like scale flying, but I think I'd like to try something different. According to their review, this plane can do marvels with a 2 stroke .46. I'm planning on putting a .53 with a 12X6....Any comments?
