GP Extra 300s ARF 40
I have just started working on this arf a week or so ago. Here is what I am planning on doing.
1) Moved the elevator servos to the rear as well as the rudder servo. 2) will be installing an OS 61FX 3) Re-covering the entire plane. This was the worst arf (as far as covering goes) that I have ever purchased. 4 Installed Du-Bro composite landing gear w/3" wheels What I would like to know, is if anybody has made any of these mods and any comments that they can give me to save me from making any mistakes. *NOTE* If you have nothing positive to add, do NOT leave anything! I would like constructive comments, NOT unfounded airfield Monday morning R/C airpilot non-sense! Thank you. |

Although I never had the ARF version, I did have the 40 size kit version. I think that the mods you suggest will work out good. Getting the pushrods shorter will definetly help control slop. Moving the servos to the back I see no problem with except that possibly it might come out a little tail heavy. I had a 50 FSR engine and it flew beautifully with that in the nose and it balanced well with no extra weight. Although I didn't have the servos i the tail. If balance becomes a problem you might try pull pull cables on the rudder with the servo where it would normally go. I would think that the 60 you want to install will be more than enough power, and it might help to balalnce the placement of your servos. You will like the way this plane flies. Good luck and let us know how it worked out for you. Chuck

Two words, "Flying Wires" especially if it comes out a little heavy. Mine flew well with .46FX and both horizontal stabs. A Tower muffler with a DuBro exhaust deflector fits very nicely in that boxed area of the ARF, good for almost 1000 additional RPM. Actual facts.
BTW, I have a spare wing now. JJ |

I have one of these beauties. The covering on mine was just fine, you must have gotten a fluke there. I started out with an Irvine .53 in mine. I used wire control rods instead of the dowels. I opened the bottom of the fuslage and braced them internaly. This plane flew great. Flys like it is on rails. Need to keep the speed up on landing though. After about a dozen flights I noticed the horizontal stab was cracked. I sheeted mine and recovered them. I also stuck a Magnum .91 4s in it while I was at it. What a blast to fly. All kinds of power and sounds great. This however is not a 3D plane. Just one great flying airobatic plane. I used the stock landing gear and left the servoes where they called for them and have never had a problem with the setup. Stock landing gear is tough as nails as is the whole plane. One of my all time favorite planes
