Looked at the manual...that wing idea should work great.

Hey how much are these going for?

Have a buddy going through a rough time trying to keep his business open with all these stupid politicians in Washington trying to kill small business, and sold his planes to pay some bills.

I had the same problem with my Great Planes Cub with the one piece 81" wing. It was such a pain to haul around, that I hardly ever flew it anymore and I almost sold the plane as a result.

SO....Last winter I decided to "CLIP" the wings and I am sure glad I did. Now the wing is still one piece but only 68" long. I can now haul it with ease and it still flies fantastic and is way more aerobatic to boot.

I removed 2 bays from each wingtip to accomplish this but still used the original wingtips.
It was an easy one day mod and I am exstatic with the results.
Where there is a will.... there is a way!!

Hey Curt,

Thanks for the pic's and it looks good! If I do decide to clip it, I'm going to do it the way you did. But I think I'm still going to keep it two piece either way. By the way, which engine are you using? I'm going with a four stroke in mine but not sure if I should put a 54 or 75 in it. I'm sure the 54 would be fine but I would like to have some extra power and I'm wondering if the 75 will just be overkill and mostly wasted....????

And Cowboylifersaver, no, I haven't touched it yet....I have a few more projects I want to get done before I start on it.

FWIW, I have a Great Planes version. When I was deciding on power, I was thinking of how it might fly on floats? I went with an Enya 80 I had because of that. A little bit much for normal flying (flies great using no more than 1/2), but absolutely perfect choice when on floats.....

Five years ago when I bought this plane new, I had a NIB OS .46AX 2 stroke laying around so that is what is in there along with a Pitts muffler. It had tons of power when it was an 81", but now that I clipped the wings, I find myself wanting just a little more power for some extreme non-scale aerobatics (trying to make a 3D machine out of it.. ha ha). The .46AX still flies it fine though but I do have an OS .61 4 stroke that I have been pondering putting in the Cub for a little more grunt and better sound. I also have a TT .91 4 stroke but that may be a little extreme for my Cubby.

I would probably go with a 72 size 4 stroke. It would be a great combo for that airframe and would work well with floats. A .91 is slight overkill... but hey... whatever floats your boat!!

Perfect time to consider a "Clipped Wing" modification like mentioned above.
