Kadet Senior available at Nitroplanes
I was informed by a friend that the Kadet Senior ARFs are available for purchase at Nitroplanes.com. Rumor has it that the shipment from China intended for SIG was sold to a company in the states. Don't know how true that rumor is, but I know that Nitroplanes has the Kadet Senior. I ordered one, and received it this afternoon. It is the same ARF that I got from SIG last year. Fully covered and ready for assembly. They have both Red and Blue ARFs for sale.

ORIGINAL: flynte Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Sig selling them for over $200 [sm=spinnyeyes.gif] flynte At the Nitro price of $119.95 plus $20.00 shipping it's a bargain. The low price/high product design value in my opinion makes it the bar none best deal for a trainer on the planet. I didn't need one, but I couldn't pass it up. It's a crying shame it's come to this for Sig, they'll continue to be an icon, but in the meantime business is business. My new Senior will introduce a new flyer to the hobby - that's the plan, and so mission accomplished. |
RE: Kadet Senior available at Nitroplanes
Shipping was $32.55 for me. Still a good deal if the ARF is as good as I've heard. (Never have seen one in person)
Surprised to see a 60 2-stroke recommended or 91 4-cycle. Are these heavier than a SIG? (or just tail heavy?) Clay |
RE: Kadet Senior available at Nitroplanes
Don't understand why anyone would want a 91 4stroke on a trainer. I've seen 70-ish 4strokes but nothing larger. I've had one for a year, and I've used both a .52 and 46 2stroke in it. Both are great for this plane.
If you've never had a ARF Kadet Senior, check all the glue points, especially the wing at the center ribs where they connect to the spars and leading edge. Mine failed and I had to rebuild the wings. Easy to do, but I should have been flying. The chinese manufacturing facility used hot glue around the glue joints and never glued the butt points. Any stress and the wings will fold. Don't know if they've address this or not since last year. The plane from Nitro is the same plane that SIG sold, except for the decals. I bought one the last time Nitro sold them. |
RE: Kadet Senior available at Nitroplanes
Just got the Red one! This is the best trainer IMHO. I built one from a Sig kit 30 years ago and it was the plane I learned on. A 45 was all I needed back then but I think I`ll put a 75 in it this time as I have one not in use:D

RE: Kadet Senior available at Nitroplanes
Just got done ordering one myself to replaced my kit one that had a whoops from another flier. I'll put it back on the floats from the old one

Or you can get mine, it you want a Kadet Sr. out of the ordinary.
Check the classified section, put the word Kadet on the search feature if you'd like to see some pics. |

Gee, could that be one of the reasons that Sig is rumored to be going out of business? No, that is not something that I want to happen. Another post mentions that Sig refused the shipment after discovering problems with the "kits" and their glue joints. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all! Ed Cregger |
RE: Kadet Senior available at Nitroplanes
I saw two of them fold their wings during normal flight. No heresay as I actually saw it.(Was buddy boxing a newbe on one) The glue failed on both wings around the wing/dihedral brace box.. Do a search and you will find many more of the same failures.

That is not good. Although, if the ARF is of good basic engineering, it might be worth stripping the covering and going over all of the glue joints with CA or Aliphatic resin glue and recovering. I love transparent plastic covering on models like the Kadet Senior, or Seniorita. Ed Cregger |
RE: Kadet Senior available at Nitroplanes
Just got mine. I ordered it yesterday. Talk about fast shipping! I have looked it over and it`s a top quality plane. The covering is perfect and all the glue joints seem to be done very well. I always add some extra into areas of high stress anyway but overall I would say that this was a smokin deal! I doubt if SIG rejected the shipment more like they could not pay for the items. Hope SIG stays around as they were the kits I learned on.

RE: Kadet Senior available at Nitroplanes
Nitro is calling it a version 2, so I wounder if the wing problem was addressed? Guess I'll still open it up anyways and take a look.
i also intend to making it a one piece wing anyways as my kit one was. flynte |

RE: Kadet Senior available at Nitroplanes
Mine folded the wing just after an easy takeoff on the maiden flight. IF I were to buy another one I would strip all the covering off and reglue the entire model. Buyer beware......Brian

RE: Kadet Senior available at Nitroplanes
Brian,
Were you able to determine just which pieces failed that allowed the wings to fold? Thanks, Clay |
RE: Kadet Senior available at Nitroplanes
Clay, I'm not Brian but on the two I examined the box in the wing that the wing joiner/diehedral brace fit into had the glue fail. The wood was still intact, the glue joint broke and did not bring any wood with it. It could have been reglued right back together. Anybody that takes their wing apart to fix it will have to do some serious remodeling.

RE: Kadet Senior available at Nitroplanes
Remind me to never deal with Nitro Models...ever. Tried to order online, don't know if iI did or did not? No confirmation, unable to contact a real person for about a week. Finally got thru today and after a 35 min wait on hold, tried other venues, all essentially telling me I was #4 or #6 in line, Orders, tech support, etc. I still don't know if the plane was ordered because of the way the site is set up? Unable to contact them thru the live chat as it is never staffed, poor way to run a business.[>:]

RE: Kadet Senior available at Nitroplanes
Thanks Fred. I'll examine all that a bit close when I start assembling mine. (on another project just now)
Gizmo, sorry to hear of your troubles. This was my first experience with Nitro Models and the online ordering, email acknowlegements and shipping notifications couldn't have gone more smoothly. I did open the box to scan the contents and all seemed well although I haven't actually inventoried the contents. Hope its all there cause what is there sure looks good, Clay |
RE: Kadet Senior available at Nitroplanes
I have a Kadet Senior and a Kadet LT-40.
I bought both years ago. The Kadet Senior flies like a dream. I couldn't ask for anything else. I've flown it countless times with an Enya 45 on it and so far nothing has gone wrong. It flies nice and slow and it's easy to see. Igot it from Towerhobbies. My Kadet LT-40 I've had even longer. It flies just as nice but of course slightly faster and not as simple to see in the air, but easy nonetheless. I've crashed it about three times. All of which were caused by failures of radio or engine. It still flies very nice after being fixed up each time. Both of these planes are very nice planes in my opinion. |
RE: Kadet Senior available at Nitroplanes
Will try Monday.....got the customary "call back during normal business hours 8 to 5, well it was about 2 pm.......and I am on the same time as they are!
