Default Charging question

I have the dynamite Speedpack 1800Mah Ni-MH that came with my sons Torment on the charger right now. I had it set to limit capacity ot 2100 maH and it finished with the message of Capa on the charger, Thunder AC6. Are these packs really that under rated? I just restarted the charge with the capacity cut-off turned off and it put an additional 212 maH into to, for a totla of 2312 maH . Should I just call it charged when it hits the cut-off at 2100? or should I set it higher? Or Lower Don't want to damage the pack. I am charging at 1.8A

What about his lipo, it is a 5000 maH sky lipo 20c 7.2 hardcase, what should I set the cut off at?

Thanks

Jacob

I fly all electric.... and I would NEVER overcharge my batteries. And my lipo's always go through a break in period. I am not an expert But I believe you probably damaged that pack....

Not sure if it would have damaged the pack or not, the Charger is a Delta Peak charger, so it should shutoff when it is complete, atleast for NiMh packs

Agreed charger should shut off. 3.8v per cell for a lipo would be the norm. Again it should stop automatically

Your pack is probably not over-rated at all. I'd sooner question the accuracy of the charger's current based on the capacity error (or the additional 212 happened during the peak delay at start and as a result is overcharge) In either case the pack is probably very close to the labeled 1800 mah. The charger should do a nearly perfect job of detecting the full mark especially at the 1.8 rate you chose. Keep doing what you're doing with a max capacity of 2400+ set in the NIMH mode. After a few more charges you may see a new better figure to use.

The lipo should be set the same way (start at 5000 mah) and if it reaches cut-off then increase it to result in a fully charged pack. OR you can just turn it off the first time and then you have your magic number, right? If all of your batts rersult in a capacity that is higher than the label then the current is suspect and can be checked with a DVM or clamp meter.
