Default Life batteries not charging to rated capacity

I made up some packs with life batteries to replace lipos and for RX packs. They do not take the full rated MAH on charge and give it on discharge. All my packs are about 10% short. So, about 2100 with cells rated for 2300, as an example. The ones I am testing right now are Olevin power A123 2300 as sold by hobby king. I get about 2100 in them after a complete discharge, uuing my charger. At first this 3S pack was reluctant to balance. One cell was over voltage. Now it has settled down after several cycles. Could the cells be old and degrading, just not up to specs in the first place? I am using an IMAZ B6 charger. It is set correctly. Is it normal for the vendor to fudge the specs a bit?

That's probably normal for even brand new cells. If they are tested at the specs given by MFG then they should deliver the spec rating by MFG.

Have you calibrated the voltage on the B6

No, just put a meter across the +/- and see how it compares to the number on the screen?

The 1100 cells gave about 900 so I think you have normal results. They don't recommend going to 2 volts but that's probably what was used to specify capacity.

Suggest you go here and read the information regarding prope LiFe setup and charging. First thing I would suspect would be Hobby King then improper charger set up www.hangtimes.com

I have (4) A123 2300mah receiver packs that have been in service for almost (5) years. I charge them with a Cell Pro charger and check the capacity with a Peak Electronics Super Test Pro Precision Battery Tester with a (1) amp load and a volpage cut off of 2.5 vluts per cell. All my capacity numbers are very close to 2100mah and I have not see any degradation over time. I have been doing a discharge test approximately every (6) months. Your mumbers look fine to me.

Knock-off cells and a cheap charger. You're probably getting as good as it will get @2100Ma.
